A. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course introduces the basic concepts and principles of Chemistry. The course covers matter and measurement, atomic structure, periodic table,
chemical bonding, formulas and names of inorganic compounds, chemical equations, stoichiometry, energy changes, reaction rates, chemical equilibrium,
gas laws, intermolecular forces and condensed states, solutions, acids and bases, and nuclear chemistry. Course activities such as problem solving, and
laboratory experiments are designed to help develop analytical and critical thinking skills. Emphasis is also given on the practical applications of Chemistry
in the industrial applications. This course would also give a new appreciation of the role of chemistry in both the industry and the larger world around us.

B. PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Graduates of the BInd Tech Program are individuals who:
1. Common to the discipline (Industrial Technologist)
A. Articulate the rootedness of education in philosophical, socio-cultural, historical, psychological, and political contexts.
B. Demonstrate mastery of the subject matter/discipline.
C. Facilitate learning using a wide range of teaching methodologies and delivery models appropriate to specific learners and their
environment.
D. Develop innovative curricula, instructional plans, teaching approaches, and resources for diverse learners.
E. Apply skills in the development and utilization of ICT to promote quality, relevant, and sustainable educational practices.
F. Demonstrate a variety of thinking skills in planning, monitoring, assessing, and reporting learning processes and outcomes.
G. Practice professional and ethical teaching standards sensitive to the local, national, and global realities.
H. Pursue life-long learning for personal and professional growth through varied experiential and field-based opportunities.

C. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, the students should be able to:
1. Appreciate the importance of the scientific method and measurement; convert units of measure and demonstrate dimensional analysis skills; and
distinguish the different states, classification and properties of matter.
BAAO COMMUNITY COLLEGE
San Juan, Baao Camarines Sur

2. Demonstrate knowledge of atomic structure, laws of matter and quantum mechanics, and apply these concepts to the study of periodic properties of
elements; describe bonding in and in the shape of molecules and ions.
3. Write a balanced chemical equation for a chemical reaction and appropriately specify states of matter or reaction conditions.
4. Discuss the principles involved in the formation of solutions and describe the properties of solutions.
5. Describe dynamic chemical equilibrium and factors affecting it, write equilibrium constant expressions and calculate their values, and use Le
Chatelier's Principles to determine shifts in equilibrium.
6. Write and interpret a rate law, calculate reactant concentration as a function of tie using a given rate law, and state and explain factors that affect
reaction rates.
7. Differentiate the theories of acids and bases and describe the behavior of strong and weak acids and bases in aqueous solutions.
8. Use the solubility guidelines for common ionic solids to determine whether a precipitate forms in each reaction in solution.
9. Distinguish between oxidizing and reducing agents.
10. Identify the oxidation states of all elements of ions in a reaction and determine whether a redox process occurs. 11. Describe the reactions involved
in detecting cations in a sample solution

H. COURSE POLICIES
1. Attendance Policy. Students' attendance is defined as active participation in an online and weekly threaded discussion, digital submission of
performance tasks/assignments, completion of a quiz/test/exam. Students are required to attend synchronous sessions twice a month or as need
arises and participate in all asynchronous sessions.
2. Netiquette Guidelines. Strictly adhere to the netiquette and video conferencing etiquette presented.
3. Students must enroll in the Google Classroom and be included in the class GC.
4. Students are responsible for their own learning at their own pace. Materials/links are provided. Read all the assigned materials and watch videos
prior to class and be prepared for online and weekly threaded discussions. This means that, in addition to posting a response to the thread topic
presented, students are expected to respond to each other.
5. Maintain a standard of academic honesty. Students are expected to exhibit personal accountability. Plagiarizing and cheating will automatically get 70
and subject for disciplinary action.
6. Performance tasks/assignments should be submitted in the Google Classroom on or before the due date. Failure to submit on the due date will
automatically get 70.

7. Quizzes, Assignments and examinations.
- There will be 2 Examinations (Midterm and Finals).
- A student who failed to take a scheduled examination shall only be allowed to take the special examination due to the following valid reasons:
● Illness (supported by a Doctor’s Certificate)
● Hospitalization (with a Hospital Discharge Certificate)
● Death of an Immediate Family Member
● Emergency cases (i.e. fire, earthquake, accident, or such similar occurrences)
● Those who will be taking National Examinations (i.e. Civil Service Examination, TESDA Assessment, and the like)
- Student-examinee for the special examination is required to apply for a special test approved by the College Dean. He/she has to present the
approved letter to the instructor before taking the test.
- No make-up quizzes, homework, or exercises will be given. If it is necessary to be absent during a quiz or exercise, your score will be zero.
- Missing more than one exam; having fewer than the required number of quizzes or assignments; or missing three exercises will ensure a failing
grade, 5.0, in the course.
- Take responsibility for your education.
- You are responsible for all information and materials in sessions and classes whether you are present or not.
