Course Description
This course is structured to present the utmost elasticity and uncomplicated adaptation for science and non-science students. A
working knowledge of the ecological sciences is a useful background to understand the role of the environment life support systems of
both terrestrial and aquatic habitat. It is meant to offer an opportunity to study a range of environmental issues from a scientific
perspective. Although other dimensions (social, cultural, economical and political aspects) may be considered, the program primarily
seeks to provide scientific knowledge and understanding enabling the students to review environmental issues more objectively. To this
end, the students would have a fuller grapple of the basic concepts and principles of environmental science with their own understanding
on each identified environmental issues or news/updates in a global perspective. While ensuring that this course provides a global
perspective, students should also be familiarized with the local and regional dimensions of the environmental issues being studied.
1. Acquire and apply scientific knowledge about environmental concerns so as to understand the underlying scientific
concepts;
2. Explain the interactions between humans and other organisms within the context of environmental science;
3. Recognize the purpose and assess the effectiveness and feasibility of governmental environmental policy in defining and
regulating the role and impacts of human society;
4. Develop pro-environmental values and attitudes that foster environmental responsibility, and,
5. Critically evaluate their attitudes, behavior and values and consequently adopt a more sustainable lifestyle.
