Basic Computer Course

Course Duration:
Three Months

Course Overview:
This course is designed for beginners to acquire basic knowledge and skills in using computers and
popular software. It covers essential computer concepts, operating systems, file management, internet
usage, and basic productivity software, aimed at empowering individuals to perform routine tasks with
confidence and efficiency.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Understand Basic Computer Concepts


o Recognize and understand the basic components of a computer system (hardware and
software).
o Understand the function of different peripheral devices (keyboard, mouse, monitor,
printer, etc.).
o Demonstrate knowledge of the operating system and how it facilitates computer
operations.

2. Use Operating System Efficiently


o Navigate through Windows or a commonly used operating system (e.g., macOS or
Linux).

 Week 2:

o Introduction to the keyboard and mouse (keyboard layout, left/right click).
o Navigating windows, resizing, and switching between apps.
o Working with multiple windows.

o Search functionality within the OS.
o Setting up and managing user accounts.

Month 2: Productivity Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

 Week 5:
o Introduction to word processing (Microsoft Word/Google Docs).
o Basic document creation and formatting.
o Inserting tables, images, and other objects.

 Week 6:
o Introduction to spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets).
o Creating and editing spreadsheets.

 Week 7:
o Introduction to presentations (Microsoft PowerPoint/Google Slides).
o Creating slides, inserting text and images.

Month 3: Internet & Email Skills

o Email communication basics: Setting up and using an email account (Gmail, Outlook).
o Composing, sending, and organizing emails.

o Digital security and privacy: Understanding online threats.
o Creating strong passwords, avoiding phishing scams, and protecting personal
information.
o Introduction to antivirus software and system updates.

 Week 12:

conferencing (Zoom, Skype).
o Final Project: Creating a basic document, spreadsheet, and presentation on a topic of
choice.
