Introduction
1. Introduction:
This section describes the project location and scope of services performed by Tti Testing Laboratories
(Tti) along with its subsidiary Sustainable Environmental Services & Laboratory (SES&L).

Project Background
The Fatima Fertilizer Company Limited was incorporated on December 24, 2003, as a joint venture between
two major business groups in Pakistan namely, Fatima Group and Arif Habib Group. The foundation stone
of the company was laid on April 26, 2006 by the Prime Minister of Pakistan. The construction of the
Complex commenced in March 2007 and is housed on 950 acres of land.

FFCL produce two intermediate products Ammonia and Nitric Acid and four final products Urea, Calcium
Ammonium Nitrate (CAN), Nitro Phosphate (NP) and Nitrogen Phosphorous Potassium (NPK) at Sadiq
Abad, Rahim Yar Khan.

The Environmental monitoring is required for the operational activities in accordance with EPA regulation
and M/S Fatima Fertilizer Company Ltd (FFCL) engaged M/S Tti Testing International for Environmental
Monitoring.

Fatima Fertilizer Company Limited has acquired NOC/Environmental Approval from Environmental
Protection Department for said project is the Extension of Fertilizers Manufacturing Plant in terms of
capacity by M/S Fatima Fertilizer Company Limited at Mukhtar Garh, Sugar Mill Road, 10-Km Sadiq
Abad, District Rahim Yar Khan.
To comply with the condition inscribed in Letter No. AD(EIA)/EPA/F-224(EIA)/2022/139, Dated:
20/02/2023 issued by Environmental Protection Department, Fatima Fertilizer Company Limited Engaged
M/s Tti Testing Laboratories-Sustainable Environmental Services & Laboratory JV (Tti-SES&L JV) to
conduct Environmental Monitoring and Water Analysis on quarter basis.

Objectives
The objective of this study is to:

▪ Comply with the regulatory requirements of the project;

▪ Monitoring of Ambient Air Quality
FFL SDQ Site Baseline Environmental Pollution Load Estimation

▪ Monitoring of Ambient Noise Quality

▪ Sampling and Analysis of Ground Water

Scope of Services
The environmental monitoring was conducted at advised locations for following environmental
parameters.

▪ Ambient Air Quality Monitoring

▪ Ambient Noise Monitoring
▪ Analysis of Ground Water

Monitoring Location
Location for Ambient Air Quality Monitoring, Ambient Noise Monitoring and Ground Water Sampling
was specified by the client within the premises of project area. Coordinates of project area are:
28°16'1.98"N, 70° 2'17.37"E.

The monitoring & sampling points for ambient air quality with noise level & surface water sampling are
represented in the following Tables 1 & 2 respectively.

Methodology
2. Methodology:
Following is the brief description of methodology adopted for Environmental Monitoring & Water
Sampling.

Survey Planning
The project started with planning of monitoring activities after meeting with the management of Fatima
Fertilizer Company Limited.

Identification of Ambient Air & Noise Monitoring Location

Management of Fatima Fertilizer Company Limited provided Tti personnel with location of Ambient Air
Monitoring, Ambient Noise Monitoring & Ground Water Sampling and necessary platform for job
execution.

Monitoring Plan
On the basis of location, a monitoring plan was developed in order to achieve precision and accuracy in the
monitoring and sampling of the required environmental parameters. The monitoring plan was developed
in consultation with Client’s representatives. Monitoring was started from Thursday, 25th April, 2024 to
Monday, 29th April, 2024.

Sampling and Analysis Methods

The sampling and testing methods are given in following sections of the report.

Sampling and Analysis Methods

The sampling and testing methods are given in following sections of the report.

a. Ambient Air Monitoring

The sampling procedures were based on the methods equivalent of United State Environmental Protection
Agency USEPA.

• The air quality monitoring was carried out at reference points with the help of Mobile Air
Quality Monitoring Equipment. The Analyzers and technique of monitoring are equivalent with
the requirement of USEPA and EU Standards.

• The exact sampling site was finalized during the site visit with consent of client.
FFL SDQ Site Baseline Environmental Pollution Load Estimation

• The ambient air quality was monitored by online analyzers continuously for 24 hours at
individual sampling point.

• Dust monitoring which includes Particulate Matter (PM10 & PM2.5) was monitored using
USEPA Equivalent Continuous Monitors.

b. Noise Level Monitoring

A set of three readings was collected from identified point as average of which is reported, for noise
measurement sound level meter was utilized, having level range from 15 dB to 235dB with minimum
detection limit of 0.1 db. Noise was monitored instantaneously at four boundaries and in the mid-section of
the room and value was averaged to get representative reading. Class 01 Sound Level Meter with A
weighting was utilized.

c. Ground Water Sampling

Ground water samples for chemical analysis was collected in new HDPE / Teflon Sampling containers.
Separate sample was collected for microbiological aliquot, Heavy metal analysis sample aliquot and
inorganic analysis sample aliquot. Major physical parameters were analyzed onsite such as pH, Turbidity,
Color.

Microbiological Sampling was performed after sterilization of water source as per WHO & USEPA
guidelines and sample was collected in Sterilized glass containers. Sample was transported using Ice boxes
with temperature under 4oC to maintain sample integrity.

Sample Chain of custody was maintained from sampling location to Laboratory to ensure sample integrity.
Analysis was performed as per standard methods.

Results & Discussion

3. Results & Discussion:
The results obtained and their comparison with Punjab Environmental Quality Standards have been stated
in this section as follows:

a. Ambient Air Analysis:

In this section results of Ambient Air Monitoring (O3, CO, HF, HNO3, NO, NO2, SO2, TSP, PM10 & PM2.5)
measured at identified project’s site to get an overview of the ambient air quality are discussed. The ambient
air quality results at specified location are as following:

i. South near Workshop:

As per Punjab Environmental Quality Standards, all values were monitored on 25/04/2024-26/04/2024
during 24-hours continuous analysis except Carbon Monoxide, which was analyzed for 08 hours. The
average ambient air results obtained during 24 hours are stated as follows in Table 3-4:

Remarks & Discussion:

Comparison of the results obtained showed that Ground Water obtained from Fatima Fertilizer Company
Limited had values within permissible limits as per Punjab Environmental Quality Standards except Total
Dissolved Solids (TDS), Total Hardness & Chloride, Taste, Turbidity, Arsenic & Boron due to the saline
soils in the monitoring area. Among analysis of the heavy metals, all metals were also within limits defined
by PEQS.

Summary
4. Summary:
Tti Testing Laboratories (Tti) conducted Environmental Monitoring & Water Sampling Activity at Fatima
Fertilizer Company Limited in April, 2024 which consisted of 24-hours Ambient Air Quality Monitoring,
24-hours Ambient Noise Level Monitoring & Ground Water. Ground water sample collection and analysis
was according to APHA & USEPA guidelines, performed in our state-of-the-art ISO 17025 accredited &
EPA Certified Laboratory.

Results of all the parameters which were tested in Ground Water Sample found to be in limits set in Punjab
Environmental Quality Standards except Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Total Hardness & Chloride due to
the saline soils in the monitoring area. 24 hours-Ambient Air & Ambient Noise Monitoring, all results were
found to be in compliance with PEQS limits.
