Activity: SPELLING WITH A TWIST
Drill
Direction: The students will be grouped into 7 groups. The teacher will
enunciate the following words and their meaning. The students in every group
will spell the word, one letter at a time. The group who will be able to spell
the word correctly will be given additional 2 points for 1 written work.

1. Hazard- are elements of physical environment, harmful to man and


caused by forces extraneous to him.
2. Lithosphere- is the solid, outer part of Earth.
3. Earthquake- the sudden release of strain energy in the Earth's crust,
resulting in waves of shaking that radiate outwards from the earthquake
source.
4. sinkhole- a cavity in the ground, especially in limestone bedrock, caused
by water erosion and providing a route for surface water to disappear
underground.
5. Volcanoes- mountains or hilsl, typically conical, having a crater or vent
through which lava, rock fragments, hot vapor, and gas are being or have
been erupted from the earth's crust.
6. Typhoon- a tropical storm in the region of the Indian or western Pacific
oceans.

After the activity, the teacher will announce the winner.

Before we start the discussion, let me present to you the objective of our
lesson for today.

Disaster is defined as “a sudden, calamitous event, bringing great damage,


loss, destruction and devastation to life and property: (Asian Disaster
Preparedness Center- ADPC, 2012)

Disaster risk is defined as “the probability that the community’s structure or


geographic area is to be damage or destructed by impact of a particular
hazard, on account of its nature, construction and proximity to a hazardous
area (ADPC,2021).

- An event, either human-made or natural, becomes a disaster when it is
sudden or progressive, causing widespread human, material or
environmental losses.
