ANALYZE
1. Based on your findings and observations in activity 16.1 and 16.2, which philosophies of
education are dominant in Philippine Basic Schools? Why do you say so?
EDFS401 - Learning Episode 16

I think that the most presented philosophies in education here in the Philippines are pragmatism
and rationalism, since the learners are still having trouble into doing things competitively and
globally, the learners first need to be rationally capable of doing things before taking on new
horizons of learning, as well as the learners wanted to reach their goals in life and bring up their
families to a more safer life in the near future.

2. If there is one philosophy that schools and teachers should give more attention to, what should
that be and why?

Utilitarianism is what I think the philosophy that our department needs to focus since even
though that we have the tools to utilize our learning and at the same time our capability to go into
jobs or do some side hustles, on how to do these things properly is the thing that concerns on our
community. On how to utilize our knowledge, skills and capabilities is highly important to us as
we are going globally, little by little.

REFLECT

My Philosophy of Teaching
These may help:

I believe that the learner…

has the knowledge, the skills, and the decisions that will shape up our identity as a
Filipino, but we are still aren’t there yet since some of us are still thinking indecisively.

I believe that I should teach the learners…

how to evoke responsibility and proper decision-making skills, as well as self-control
skills.

By…
showing different ways to promote self-control and responsibility, and give them
different outcomes if some things go south when one is not capable of learning these areas.

I believe that I…
will help them to be more competitive, more responsible and more careful about their
decisions in life, while enjoying the life full of achievements.
