DSLR Parts and their Func ons

Whether a Digital SLR or mirrorless , the camera parts will
inevitably be found on most cameras. A er ge ng hold of any camera, you need
to know the name of the different parts before you start using it. A proper
understanding of the names and func ons is the primary step towards improving
your photography skills.
All the cameras have two important components
1. CAMERA BODY
2. CAMERA LENS

PARTS & FUNCTIONS CAMERA BODY

The body is the main por on of the camera, and bodies can be a number of
different shapes and sizes. DSLRs tend to be larger bodied and a bit heavier,
while there are other consumer cameras that are a conveniently smaller size and
even able to fit into a pocket.
LENS MOUNT RING
A lens mount is an interface – mechanical and o en also electrical – between a
photographic camera body and a lens. It is a feature of camera systems where
the body allows interchangeable lenses. This is the sec on that connects the to
the camera body. To a ach the lens, you line up the lens mount index on the lens
with the red or white mark on the lens mount and turn the lens clockwise un l
you hear a click.
Lens mounts of compe ng manufacturers (Sony, Nikon, Canon) are almost
always incompa ble. In addi on to the mechanical and electrical interface
varia ons
DSLR & Mirrorless camera & interchangeable-lens manufacturers offer lens
accessories like extension tubes and secondary lenses like teleconverters, which
mount in between the camera body and the primary lens, both using and
providing a primary lens mount. Various lens makers also offer op cal accessories
that mount in front of the lens; these may include wide-angle, telephoto, fisheye,
and close-up or macro adapters.

Lens mount contacts
These are electrical contact points that transmit informa on between the lens and
camera body. Be very careful not to scratch or damage them! The high-speed,
transmission 12-pin system enables more sophis cated communica on and
func onality compared to the 8-pin lens transmission system.
Image sensor
The image sensor converts light entering the lens into electrical signals. These
signals (light informa on) are sent to the image processor for analysis. Besides
image-making and exposure control, the informa on is also used for autofocusing
under the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system.
Sensor protec on mechanism (selected cameras)
On some advanced camera models, a shu er mechanism closes over the image
sensor when the camera is powered off. This helps protect the camera from dust
when changing lenses.
Built-in flash (selected cameras)
When needed, you can fire the flash to capture a shot in a dimly lit scene. The
