Ephesians 2: 1-5

Made Alive in Christ

What did we do with broken things? We discard it right? When something is broken the world
will discard it. While the world will throw away things that are broken there is an art in Japan it
is called Kintsugi. Kintsugi is the art of repairing broken pottery. Anything that is broken what
they do is they put it together and they use gold paint or gold filler and this becomes an art piece.
Now the broken pottery mended with gold become more valuable than the before. It becomes
more beautiful and expensive.

1. Moses (Acts 7)

We all know that Moses was a great Leader. Leader who led his people Israelites out from the
slavery from Egypt. But before become a great leader he was a murderer who went hiding from
the people. We will see that in Acts 7:24 it says “he saw one of them being mistreated by an
Egyptian, so he went to his defense and avenged him by killing the Egyptian. Of course he did
that out of love and care for his people. But that does not that away the guilt of a murderer.
According to human, we will never be able to forgive the person who killed our family. But it
was not so for God. His sin was forgiven through the love of God. And God make him a leader
even though he was a broken man and a murderer.

2. David

When we are in Sunday school we are taught David was a great hero and a great King. But as we
grow and dive in deep into the story of David we get to learn his weakness. Due to his lustful
desire and he committed one of the biggest mistake. He committed adulterous and murder Uriah.
According to the law, he deserve no forgiveness what he deserve is a dead penalty. But as David
come to repentance over God he was forgiven. And God choose David descendant to bore the
Son of God, Jesus Christ.

3. Paul (Acts 9)

There was this time between 34 AD- 36 AD where Christian persecution was at its peak.
Immediately after the death of Stephen, a great persecution broke out against the Church at
Jerusalem. All the believers were scattered except some few of the apostles who remained in
Jerusalem. Because of persecution they scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. Behind all this,
a man by the name Saul from Tarsus was the mastermind who gives approval for the
persecution. Not only did he give order, but he even ravaged the church, entering house after
house and dragging off men and women. Stephen, one of the first Christian martyrs was stoned
to death under the approval of Saul. Saul hated the disciples of the Lord. He took pleasure in
arresting and persecuting followers of Jesus, thinking he was doing the right thing for his faith.
From human point of view, every will hate him for his behavior but it was not so for Jesus.

4. Peter

What about Peter, he was no better than a Moses. Peter one of the close disciples of Jesus, betray
Jesus three times. We all know that he was always near with Jesus not just a disciple but close as
a friend. Jesus also warns him that on this day he will deny him three times. But Peter replies,
Lord Jesus I will never do that. But on the night of Jesus’ arrest, peter deny Jesus not just once
but three times (Luke 22: 54- 62). Just imagine he got betrayed by your close friend or someone
close. It will be miserable right? But that does make Jesus hate Peter, he even love him more.
When Peter come back to Jesus through repentance he was forgiven and even the highest
responsibility to feed his flock.

We have all this story of how stubborn we are. These people in the Bible deserve no forgiveness
because of their sin. But through the grace of Jesus and the love of God they are forgiven. And
even today we are not less than them we are worst, we say we will never do evil things and ask
for forgiveness but like a dog we return to our own shit. From our side we take things likely and
always think God will forgive us we come into repentance. That is our point of View.

Let us see the point of view of Jesus. From the story of Barabbas and Jesus (Mark 15). Pilate
asks the crowd who do you want me to released Barabbas or Jesus. The crowd shouted Barabbas,
Barabbas. And as Barabbas was released by Pilate, he might be happy since he got freedom and
also with the thought that it is me who people want me to be free. He must be really excited. But
when we look at the point of view of Jesus. He didn’t say in words from the perspective, Jesus
says you go Barabbas, go Barabbas. Don’t worry about your sin anymore I will pay for sin. Go
Barabbas. Who is Barabbas now, we are Barabbas.
