1. Check for the Doctor’s order

2. Introduce yourself, explain the


procedure, verify the client’s identity
and provide privacy.
3. Prepare the materials:
● Kidney basin
● Towel tissue
● Clean gloves
● Cotton balls with saline
● Mouthwash
● Glass of water
● Drape
4. Assist the client in a semi-fowler’s
position
● Place a clean towel or drape
across the client's chest
5. Don clean gloves and Perform
hand hygiene

6.. Unpin the tube from the patient’s


gown and carefully remove
adhesive tape from the patient’s
nose.
7.. Instruct the patient to take a deep
breath.

8.. Hold the NG tube near the nares then


coil the end and gently pull out the tube
in a swift,

steady motion, wrapping it in your


clean gloves as it is being pulled out.
9.. Place the tube in a disposable plastic
bag.
Remove gloves and place them in a
bag.
10. Offer tissue and/or clean the nares
of the patient.

11. Perform hand hygiene.

12. Position the patient in a comfortable


position, raise the side rails, and
lower the bed.

13. Document the procedure:


● Date and time of NG tube removal;
the color, consistency, and any
amount of gastric drainage.
● Visual inspection and intactness
of the tube upon removal
● Client tolerance of the procedure
