Act 3, Scene 1: A Fight in the Streets

Their destiny is about to change its course.

Benvolio: We should leave, Mercutio. There will likely be a brawl exposed in this street
anytime.

Mercutio: Haha. You’re as timid as a rabbit. Calm down, Benvolio! You’d pick a fight with a
guy cracking nuts. Ah, and the fight with a guy who tied his new shoes with old riband. Now
you're scared of the heat?

(Tybalt and his crew enter)

Tybalt: Romeo, come out. You didn’t think you’d sneak into our house and the Capulet
didn’t know?

Mercutio: Of course not, the only thing the Capulets pass by is their nephew and maybe
their dignity!

Tybalt: Mercutio. I am not here for you. Don’t test me.

Mercutio: Why? Afraid you would fail? Come on, Tybalt. Let’s go. Man to man.

Tybalt: You went too far. You’re not Capulet.

(Romeo enters)

Tybalt - to Romeo: Romeo, draw your sword.

Romeo - to Tybalt: I never hurt you. Dear distant cousin, I will honour the venerable name
Capulet as my clan. Instead, we should stop the bitter enmity and embrace each other once
and for all.

Tybalt: Haha. Who do you think you are? Such a coward!

Mercutio: (angry) Romeo, are you afraid to fight? I’m not! Heady.

(Mercutio draws his sword and fights Tybalt. Tybalt wounds Mercutio)

Mercutio: Curse both your houses! They’ve made me worm food.

(Mercutio dies)

Romeo: (angry and sad) - to Benvolio: Benvolio, stay with him.

Romeo - to Tybalt: He’s dead because of me... Tybalt, you’re going to pay!

Benvolio: Don’t do anything stupid! Romeo. Romeo

(Romeo and Tybalt fight. Romeo kills Tybalt)

Benvolio: Romeo, What are you doing? Run! If they find you here, you’re done for!

Romeo: Oh, what have I done?!

(The Prince, Capulet, and Montague enter the court.)

Crowded people, noisy.

Prince: Silence! Tell me what happened. Be precise.

Benvolio: Your Highness, Tybalt came looking for Romeo, blood in his eyes. There, he got
into a fight with Mercutio. When Romeo came, he tried to stop them, but Tybalt drew his
sword and killed Mercutio. Mercutio is Romeo’s best friend. He couldn’t take it and went after
Tybat. he killed Mercutio first. The two fight and Tybalt is killed.

Prince: Tybalt killed Mercutio and Romeo killed Tybalt. Hmm.

I hereby declare that Romeo is banished from Verona.

Montague: But…

Capulet: Only banished?

Prince: Not another word! Romeo must leave immediately, and if he is seen in Verona, that
will be the end of him.

Act 3, Scene 2: Juliet Waits for Romeo

Juliet (excited): I can’t wait to see Romeo! We’re married now, and I love him so much.

(The Nurse enters, crying)

Juliet: Nurse, what’s wrong? Why are you so upset?

Nurse: (crying) He’s dead! He’s dead

Juliet: (confussing) What? Who? Who dead? Tell me!

Nurse: Your cousin - Tybalt’s death under Romeo’s sword. Oh no, Juliet

Juliet: (crying) No, it can’t be true. My husband killed my cousin? What do I do?

Nurse: The Prince has banished Romeo. He’s leaving Verona forever, forever.

Juliet: (crying harder) O serpent heart!

Juliet (heartbreaking): No, Romeo would have been killed if he had won the duel.

Romeo is banished. All slain, all death. Huhu

Nurse (take Juliet by the shoulder): Juliet, listen to me. I know Romeo’s trace. He’s hiding at
Friar Laurence’s place. I will take him here. Wait for me.

Act 3, Scene 3: Romeo Hides at Friar Laurence’s

Romeo (crying): I’m banished! I can never see Juliet again. Oh, my love.

Romeo (drawing his sword): How can I live without her? I must not live. Ah

Friar Laurence: You’re lucky you weren’t killed. The Prince could have punished you with
death.

Romeo: Banished is worse than death! I don’t want to live without Juliet.

(Nurse is coming)

Nurse: I’m the nurse at Capulet's home.

Romeo: How is my Juliet? Does she hate me for killing her cousin and about my
punishment?

Nurse: She’s weeps and weeps.

Romeo (upset): What have I done? I brought tears to her eyes! I hurt my loves! Huhu

Nurse: You need to meet her one more time.

Friar Laurence: Go to Juliet tonight, but leave before morning. I’ll help you both find a way
to be together.

Romeo (nodding): Hic, yes even be killed.

Friar Laurence: Romeo, listen. Tomorrow morning, you have to go to Mantua. I will arrange
your stay. You will get everything you need. I will send you letters about Juliet, the Montague
and Verona. Things will be fine, my boy.

Act 3, Scene 4: The Capulets Plan a Wedding

Lady Capulet: Things have been so bad lately, Paris. We haven’t had time to talk to Juliet.
She loved Tybalt, her cousin. So did I, but we all have to move on. It’s late now. She won’t
come down tonight. If you weren’t here, I would already be in bed.

Paris: With all this sadness, it’s hard to find the right time to ask her to marry me.
Good night, Lady Capulet. Please tell Juliet I hope she feels better.

Lady Capulet: I’ll talk to her in the morning. Tonight, she’s locked in her room, crying.

Capulet: Paris, I’ll tell her she has to marry you. I’m sure she’ll listen to me.
Wife, before you go to bed, go and talk to her. Tell her about Paris, and that I want them to
marry on Wednesday... Wait, what day is it?

Paris: It’s Monday, my lord.

Capulet: Monday? Ha! Wednesday is too soon. Let’s make it Thursday. Tell her she’ll marry
Paris on Thursday. Paris, does Thursday work for you? We won’t have a big wedding
because Tybalt just died. People might think we don’t care if we celebrate too much.

Paris: I wish Thursday was tomorrow, but yes, Thursday works for me.

Capulet: Good. Thursday it is.

Capulet - to Lady Capulet: Wife, go to Juliet now and let her know about the wedding.

Act 3, Scene 5: Romeo and Juliet Say Goodbye

(Romeo and Juliet are together at Juliet’s window)

Juliet: It’s not yet near day. It’s night. Go to sleep again.

Romeo: No, I have to go, my love. It’s morning. I must either leave and live or stay and die.

Juliet: No, stay a little longer. I don’t want to say goodbye.

Romeo: And you know what? I won’t leave. Even if death comes to take me away, I will
stay. My Juliet wishes so.

Nurse (outside the room): Your mother is coming, madam.

Juliet: I love you, Romeo. We will meet again soon, right?

Romeo: I love you too. I’ll find a way for us to be together again. Farewell, my love

(Romeo leaves. Lady Capulet enters)

Lady Capulet (excited): Juliet, I have news. Your father has planned your wedding to Paris.
It’s happening this Thursday. That will be the best event in Verona.

Juliet: (shocked) No! I don’t want to marry Paris.

Lord Capulet: every day, every night. I have only and only thought of getting a good match
for you. And now, when I find a Count, this is how you repay me? I have had enough.

(Lord Capulet coming near Juliet)

Lord Capulet: Listen to me, daughter. You marry him on Thursday, and if you dare to reject
the Court then I will disown you. You will be dead to me.

Juliet: (crying): No, please. Father, please. Mom, please, mom.

Lady Capulet: I don’t care what you want. You’ll do as your father said!

Juliet - to Nurse: Nurse, I already have a husband. I want to go to him. I want my Romeo
back.

Nurse: But he is banished. What use is a husband when he can’t stay near his wife! You
should marry the Court!

Juliet: Is it from your heart?

Nurse: And soul I want to see you happy!

Juliet: Very well, go tell my father that I feel guilty to have disobeyed him. I will confess to
Friar today.

Nurse: My child, I know you will do the right thing.

(Nurse leaving)

Juliet: Old curse! You evil liar!

Is it worse to want me to break my promise,

Or to speak badly of my husband

After praising him so many times?

Juliet (whispering): Friar, if you don’t help me, I will suicide.
