    REACTION PAPER ON DATA PRIVACY

    The seminar was conducted by the National University-Manila IT department. The


    seminar focuses about Data Privacy. It was very relevant nowadays specially when social media
    is widely used by many and majority of the students in the Philippines use social media on for
    school and entertainment purposes. Data privacy is very important because it can affect a
    person’s personal information and privacy, it can also be a cause of misinformation or other
    scams and illegal activities. In business Data privacy is a vital tool to engage the employees and
    customers rights, building trust with customers who naturally demand privacy as a human right
    requires businesses to be transparent in how they ask for permission to store personal data,
    adhere to their privacy policies, and manage the data they've gathered.

    In the Philippines we have the data privacy act of 2012, the Philippines passed
    the Data Privacy Act 2012, comprehensive and strict privacy legislation “to protect the
    fundamental human right of privacy, of communication while ensuring free flow of information
    to promote innovation and growth.” (Republic Act. No. 10173. The data privacy also protects
    the Intellectual property of the company, inventor, or business owner. It gives them the right to
    have their work as their own and not to be stolen by others. Controls the gathering, storing,
    organizing, updating, retrieval, consultation, and use of personal data, as well as the blocking,
    deletion, and destruction of that data. The country has it’s own National Security which can be
    damage if there is no Data Privacy, it is to protect the country through exporting and importing
    goods, by protecting our boundaries, for Military services and etc. So, Data privacy leads a vital
    role on every country and its citizens because it is our own information and privacy.

    As an Architecture Student I will make sure to follow the laws about data privacy
    and intellectual property. As professionals I should be more aware of these things and be more
    diligent in doing my work, so that it is much safe and in a legal process.
