1. SCOPE AND FIELD OF APPLICATION

This standard seeks to define the various stages in the analysis process for plastic materials by
RENAULT with the objective of assessing their capacity to fulfil the envisaged vehicle function(s) and
their introduction into the PMR (Panel of Approved materials).

It applies to all RENAULT, SAMSUNG and DACIA vehicles produced in all the global geographical areas.

2. OPERATING MODE

The search for materials for automotive usage is an on-going action, independent of the projects under
development.

Nevertheless, the opportunities shall be studied while adhering to the vehicle or component time
schedules.

3. DEFINITIONS

Producer: producer of plastic materials (virgin or recycled), or "compounder" manufacturing modified or

filled grades. The expressions "Supplier" or "chemist" are also used.

Equipment manufacturer: Supplier of vehicle functions or parts. The expression "transformer" is also
used.

Material analysis file: file to be completed and sent by the producer or equipment manufacturer
according to the process described in § 4. It comprises four parts:

- Questionnaire Supplier of Plastic Material (see extract in Appendix 3), shall be completed only if the
producer is not present in the PMR and shall be sent to the "RNPO Materials" department.

- Tender for bid file (see model in Appendix 4), shall be sent to the "RNPO Materials" department.
It shall be completed and signed, by each Supplier; in the return mail, this file shall be signed by the
RNPO Materials Buyer.

- Material analysis file (see model in Appendixes 5, 6, 7 and 8), shall be sent to the Central or Local
"Polymer Engineering Department" concerned.

A previously analysed material may be the subject of further analysis for a new application. In this
case, the tests already performed are not repeated; however, the Supplier shall confirm that this
product has not changed since the original analysis.

- Specific material analysis file for interior trim part and climate control system (see model in Appendix
9), shall be sent to the following department: "Analyse physico-chimique et prestations sensorielles et
physiques".

- Design expertise file (see model in Appendix 10) shall be sent to the "Design Quality" division of the
DDI.

Material traceability (Appendix 11): material sample and analysis results used to characterize the
commercial reference that will be included in the PMR and/or used for critical applications.

Launch file: "shuttle" file for RENAULT internal use to initialize and manage collectively the analysis
process until the final decision (see model in Appendix 12).

RENAULT 03 - 20 - 007 / - - B

4. PROCESS STEPS

The analysis process for plastic materials includes an initialization and 3 steps, described below and in
the table in the Appendixes 1A and 1B, respectively for the central process and the local process.

- The central synoptic, in appendix 1A, shall be used for projects vehicles and components managed
by the TCR and CTR,

- The local synoptic, in appendix 1B, shall be used for projects vehicles and components locally
managed.

4.1. INITIALIZATION

The analysis process is triggered by the first department that receives the bid, either:
- "Polymer Engineering Department " of the DIMAT, or
- "Design Quality" division of the Industrial Design Division, or
- "RNPO Materials", or
- the engineering department, or
- parts purchasing department.

On proposal from a material producer or an equipment manufacturer.

The initialization is formalized by the documentation of the Part A of the launch sheet (Appendix 12) in a
meeting with GSFA Polymers, which sends the material analysis file to the bidding producer or equipment
manufacturer.

4.2. STEP 1: PRELIMINARY INFORMATION

The material producer shall furnish (via the equipment manufacturer if he is the bidder) the information
required in the material analysis file (Annexes 3 to 10), for step 1.

GSFA Polymers decides on the action to be taken (authorization Step 2 or discontinuation); DIMat sends
a technical bulletin with, in the annex, the preliminary information and the expectations in step 2 and
informs the producer (or the equipment manufacturer) thereof.

4.3. STEP 2: CONSOLIDATION OF MATERIAL ANALYSIS FILE

The material producer and/or the equipment manufacturer shall furnish (via the equipment manufacturer if
he is the bidder) the information required in the material analysis file (Annexes 5 to 9), for step 2.

RNPO and DIMAT decide on the action to be taken (authorization Step 3 or discontinuation) and inform
the producer (or the equipment manufacturer), the engineering department, the parts purchasing
department and the GSFA Polymers in the case of local process.

4.4. STEP 3: VALIDATION OF THE MATERIAL ON VEHICLE PART

The equipment manufacturer, with the help of the material producer and RENAULT departments
produces the selected part and validates the vehicle function (the cost of the validation being borne by the
requester).

In case of compliance with the product specifications, the engineering department and the parts
purchasing department send to RNPO, DIMAT and GSFA Polymers a copy of the agreement of mass
production, for information and capitalization.

According to the strategic interest of the material, the GSFA polymers decides of the entry or no-entry of
this material into the PMR, in accordance with the standard 03 20 013.

6 - RECYCLING AND ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION

Recycling has become one of the major stakes for the years to come in the automotive field. It
should be integrated in the project evaluation like Quality, Cost, Time, and Weight.

In this context, we require you to:

- apply RENAULT Standard 00-10-050 "Prohibited products or products subject to special

restrictions- Lists and declaration modalities",

- apply RENAULT Standard 00-10-060 "Design for recyclability",

- indicate the percentage of recycled material, according to the ISO standard 14021, present in
the proposed material,

- indicate your references of recycled material of the same type (family) as proposed and the
tonnages produced

- indicate the actions undertaken to increase the share of recycled material in your projects in the
meaning of the directive 2000/53/CE

- indicate the "strategy" for the recycling of the proposed material; "strategy" means, according to
the directive 2004/0053, a large-scale plan consisting of coordinated actions and technical
means to be taken for recycling.

- update, if the material is chosen, the table of all the materials and substances of the Supplier
intended for RENAULT; this table is available, for a new Supplier, with the Recycling
engineering Unit of DIMat.

reminded below:

INSTRUCTIONS CONCERNING TEST PIECE AGEINGS IN A FLUID

The test pieces shall be aged in a recipient containing a fluid volume equal to or greater than 15 times the
volume of the test pieces being tested. In addition, unless otherwise indicated, in the case of oils and
fuels, the fluid shall be renewed every 500 hours.

INSTRUCTIONS CONCERNING THE MEASUREMENTS TO BE TAKEN AFTER AGEING

The instructions to be followed concerning the measurements to be taken after ageing are the following:

- for volatile fluids, the test pieces shall be removed from the recipient and wiped dry if necessary just
before measuring the characteristics,

- for fluids that are not easily volatilized, the test pieces shall be removed from the recipient within
4 +1
0 h after leaving the oven; they shall then be wiped dry if necessary before measuring the
characteristics 1 hour after maximum,
+1
- for ageings in the air, the test pieces shall be placed when leaving the oven in a dryer during 4 0 h

MATERIAL ANALYSIS SHEET

PART CONCERNING THE DASHBOARD COMPONENTS
FOR THERMOMECANIC CALCULATIONS

Thermomechanic characterisations must be performed following the process and protocols quoted below:

1st step: Creation of plates by injection:

The plates are realized from a granulated material.

The transformation conditions recommended by the chemist have to be respected.
The plates cannot contain any shape defect.
Thicknesses of plates must be included between 2mm and 3mm.
Minimal dimensions are: length 150mm – width: 100mm
Recommended dimensions are: thickness: 3mm – length 240mm – width : 180mm

2nd step: Samples cutting by machining 10 mm

Plate
It is recommended to cut the samples regarding the
designed area of the plate defined by the scheme Injection
besides. 20 mm Cutting area
The cutting of samples has to comply with the
recommendations of the method D41 3080 (§3.4)
(RSA method). Milling cutting is also accepted.
It is important to respect the recommendations about shape and dimensions of the method D41 3080 (§4.2).
It is also recommended to cut samples of the same dimensions.

3rd step: Tests of thermomechanic characterizations

- Linear Dilation Factor for temperatures included between -30°C and 120°C following the method RSA
D45 1834 (or the method NFT 51 221). Measures have to be realized in the parallel and perpendicular
directions of the injection flow.
- Young Modulus (3 points free deflexion at 0.01Hz) regarding the method RSA D41 3080
following the temperatures : -30°C, 23°C, 85°C and 100°C. Measures have to be realized in the parallel and
perpendicular directions of the injection flow.
- Creep behavior regarding the method RSA D41 3080:
- 2 temperatures of characterization: 85°C and 100°C
- 3 constraints applied (for each T°): 1, 2 and 3MPa or 2, 3 and 4 MPa
(regarding the deflexions observed).
- 3 tests of 4 hours for each set.

Remarks :
- Those data have to be measured in the worst conditions (perpendicular direction to the injection flow) for
isotropic materials.
- Those data have to be measured in the parallel and perpendicular directions to the injection flow for highly
anisotropic materials (with lots of long and short fibers).
- Numeric results transmitted must contain the raw data of tests.
