F10CarInformationComputer

WiththeProfessionalnavigationsystem(option609),theCICheadunitwasinstalledforthefirsttime
onBMW1Seriesand3Seriesvehicles.ThisfurtherdevelopmentoftheCarCommunicationComput-
erCCCisnowalsobeingusedintheF10.

Bystoringdataona80gigabyteharddisk,thenewheadunitprovidesmanynewfunctionsandop-
tions.

Intheaudiosystems,thisdevelopmentisreflectedbythenewmusiccollectionfunction.Musicfiles
canbeconverted(ripped)orcopiedforthemusiccollectionontheharddisc.StoredontheCIC-ded-
icatedharddisc,fastaccesstothesemusicfilesisensuredatalltimes.Aselectionofupto3700mu-
sicfiles(12 gigabytes)ispossible.

Intheaudiosystemarea,thetuners/decodersofthedigitalradiosystemsDigitalAudioBroadcasting
DAB,IBOCdigitaltunerUSandsatellitetuner(US)SDARSarenowintegratedintotheCIC.

Amodifiedbaseplateimplementsextendedconnectivityofthemusicplayer(option6NF).Thismakes
itpossibletoconnecttoandplaybackmusictracksinthemobilephone.

Musictracksstoredinthemobilephonecannowbeeasilyaccessed.Simplemenunavigationand
playbackofthesemusictrackscannowbecontrolledviatheiDrive.

2.2.CarInformationComputerBasicCICBasic

F10CICBasic

Thebasiccarinformationcomputer(businessnavigationsystem,option606)isthesuccessorhead-
unitofthemulti‐audiosystemcontrollerM-ASKandthemultimediaplatform,orCHAMPforshort.

CICBasicisaconsistentfurtherdevelopmentofthedirectiontakenin2008withCICProfessional
(professionalnavigationsystem,option609).

8
F10Informationandcommunication.
2.Headunits.
Unlikeitspredecessors(M-ASKandCHAMP),CICBasicdoesnothaveaDVDdrive,onlyaCDdrive.
CICBasiccontinuestosupportplaybackofaudiofilesonly.

ThenavigationdataarenowonaflashmemorysimilartoanSDcard.ComparedtotheM-ASK,nu-
merousfunctionshavenowbeenaddedtothenavigationsystem.Examplesincludefull-screenmode,
nightviewandthe2Dbird'seyeperspective.Acombinedviewofthemapviewandarrowdisplayisal-
sopossible.

Inaddition,manyexternalreceivers(e.g.digitaltuners,digitaldecodersetc.)andtheirfunctionshave
beenmappedinthehardwareorsoftwareofCICBasic,thusexpandingtherangeoffunctionsmany
timesover.

ForadditionalinformationaboutCarInformationComputerBasic,refertotheinformationbulletinenti-
tled"CarInformationComputerBasic".

CICBasicwillbereplacedintheF10byCICBasicIIin09/2010.

2.3.CarInformationComputerBasicII
CarInformationComputerBasicIIisinstalledasstandardequipmentintheF10(nonavigationsys-
tem).ThesystemfunctionsinCICBasicIIaresimilartothoseintheCICBasic.In09/2010,withCIC
BasicII,thebusinessnavigationsystem(option606)willalsobeimplemented.CICBasicIIwillthen
replaceCICBasicintheF10.ThereisnonoticeabledifferenceforthecustomerbetweenCICBasic
andCICBasicII.

CICBasicIIdoesnotincludepartsthatcanbereplacedbyBMWService,andmustbereplacedinits
entiretyintheeventofadefect.

TheincorporationofCICBasicIIintothevehicleelectricalsystemoftheF10isidenticaltothatofCIC

3.Speakersystems.
3.1.Overview

F10Speakers

ThespeakersystemsintheF10areofferedinthreequalitylevels:

• Stereosystem(standard)
• HiFisystem=HiFiloudspeakersystem(option676)
• TopHiFisystem=HiFisystemProfessional(option677).

Thusthestereosystemispartofthestandardequipment,whichcanvarybymarket.

Thestereosystemdoesnotrequireanadditionalamplifierandusesthespeakeroutputsofthehead-
unit.Itconsistsofatotalofsixspeakers.Theseareactivatedbyfourchannelsfromthehead-unit.

TheHiFisystemisequippedwithaneight‐channelamplifierwithdigitalequaliser.However,onlyseven
oftheeightchannelsareusedintheHiFisystem.

Thebassspeakersarelocatedunderthefrontseats.Theyarecoupledtothesidesills.Thatincreases
theresonancevolumenecessaryforbassreproduction.

Thehead-unitsCICandCICBasiccanbecombinedwithanyoftheamplifier/speakersystemsavail-
ableintherelevantnationalmarkets.

TheHiFisystemandTop-HiFisystemsfeatureseparatespeakersforthetrebleandmid-rangefre-
quencies.

EventhoughthediametersofthespeakersintheHiFiandHiFiSystemProfessionalarethesame,
therearedifferencesintheperformanceofthespeakers.Thisisachievedbytheuseofdifferentmate-
rialsforthediaphragms,coilsandmagnets.

TheTopHiFisystemsupportsplaybackofmultichannelformats.Multichannelaudioformatscanbe
playedbackwiththeplayerintheCICorwiththe6xDVDchanger.

TheHiFisystemhastwelvespeakerswhiletheTop-HiFisystemhas16speakerseachwithdifferent
auxiliaryamplifiers.
