Hardwareadvantages
Oneofthefirstoptionsisthetransmissionofvehiclecameradata(F15).TheadvantageofEthernet
isthatvehiclecameras(IP-based)arenotonlyconnectedtoonecontrolunit,butseveralcontrolunits
canaccessthedataflowsofthevehiclecameras.Thenetworkisthereforeveryflexibleandiswell
preparedforthefuture.
Anotherimportantadvantageisthefastprogrammingofcontrolunits.Theprogrammingtimesare
reducedsignificantlyviaEthernet.WhereasaCANbuscanonlytransmitdatawithamaximumlength
of8bytespermessage,Ethernetmessageshavealengthofover1500bytes.Theuserdataratethus
increases:Considerablymoremessagepackagescanbetransmittedinashorterperiod.
Otherapplicationssuchasthecontrolunitcommunication,thenetworkingofvehicleswiththe
environmentanddiagnosisusages,willalsoincreasetheimportanceofEthernet.Furthermore,with
aOABREthernetconnectiononlytwolines(insteadofthepreviousfivelineswithEthernet)areused,
meaningadditionalweightandcostscanbesaved.Detailsondatatransfer,thephysicallayerandlayer
