ABSTRACT
The integration of digital technology in healthcare has transformed the sector, offering unparalleled
opportunities for improved patient outcomes, enhanced clinical efficiency, and personalized medicine. However,
this digital revolution also presents significant challenges, including data privacy concerns, cybersecurity threats
and interoperability issues. Rural communities face significant healthcare disparities due to limited access to
quality care, specialist services, and health resources. Digital technology offers a promising solution to address
these inequities. This poster explores the opportunities and challenges of digital technology in improving
healthcare outcomes in rural areas. We examine the impact of telemedicine, mobile health(mHealth) apps,
electronic healthcare records (EHRs), and data analytics on patient engagement and health service delivery. Our
study reveals that digital technology can: Increases accesses to specialist care through telemedicine, enhance
chronic disease management through mHealth apps, Improve health information exchange through EHRs etc.
However, challenges persist, including: Limited digital literacy and infrastructure, Data privacy and security
concerns, Integration with existing healthcare systems. This study provides insights for policymakers,
healthcare providers, and stakeholders to overcome these challenges and harness digital technology’s potential
to improve healthcare outcomes in rural areas.
