Conditionals Zero to Second

Zero Conditional
We use the zero conditional to talk about permanent truths, such as scientific facts, and general habits

If + present simple, present simple.

Ex. (I / wake up late / I / be late for work)


If I wake up late, I'm late for work.

1. (my husband / cook / he / burn the food)

2. (Audrey / not wear a hat / she / get sunstroke)

3. (children / not eat well / they / not be healthy)

4. (you / mix water and electricity / you / get a shock)

5. (people / eat / too many sweets / they / get fat)

6. (children / play outside / they / not get overweight)

Answers: 1. If my husband cooks, he burns the food. 2. If Audrey doesn't wear a hat, she gets sunstroke. 3. If children
don't eat well, they aren't healthy. 4. If you mix water and electricity, you get a shock. 5. If people eat too many sweets,
they get fat. 6. If children play outside, they don't get overweight.

First Conditional
We use the first conditional to talk about a real possibility.

If + present simple, will / can / must + Verb

EX: If I go (go) out tonight, I’ll go (go) to the cinema.

1. If you _____ (get) back late, I _______ (be) angry.

2. If we _______ (not / see) each other tomorrow, we ______ (see) each other next week.

3. I ________ (buy) a new dress if I _________ (have) enough money.

4. She ________ (cook) dinner if you ________ (go) to the supermarket.

5. They ________ (go) on holiday if they ________ (have) time.

6. We ________ (be) late if we _______ (not / hurry).

7. She _______ (take) a taxi if it _______ (rain).

Second Conditional
We use the second conditional to talk about improbable or impossible situations in the present or future

if + past simple, would / could + verb

Ex: If I spoke (speak) perfect English, I would have (have) a good job.

1. If we _________________ (live) in Mexico, I _________________ (speak) Spanish.

2. If she _________________ (pass) the exam, she _________________ (be) able to enter university.

3. She _________________ (be) happier if she _________________ (have) more friends.

4. We _________________ (buy) a house if we _________________ (decide) to stay here.

5. They _________________ (have) more money if they _________________ (not / buy) so many clothes

6. We _________________ (come) to dinner if we _________________ (have) time.

7. She _________________ (call) him if she _________________ (know) his number.
