Aim: The Aim of this course to guide students to remember and understand design principles, apply them
to create visually appealing 2D designs, analyse historical temple iconography, evaluate designs critically,
and finally, create culturally informed masterpieces. The focus on daily sketching enhances observational
skills crucial to effective design.

Course Objectives
1. To understand the characteristics, properties of design elements, and principles of design and
how they can be combined and arranged to create meaningful and visually appealing signs
and symbols.
2. To understand the importance of daily sketching to notice the key elements that can be
simplified and translated to form effective signs and symbols.
3. To explore techniques for simplifying, manipulating, and stylizing forms to create effective
and visually appealing 2D designs.
4. To develop an understanding of both the tangible and intangible aspects of form, including
physical attributes like material, position, and orientation, as well as psychological and
emotive qualities, visual hierarchy, and symbolism.
5. To study the rich history of Indian temple iconography, including its origins, evolution, and
cultural significance.
