Food is one of the basic necessities of life. Food contains nutrients—substances essential for the

growth, repair, and maintenance of body tissues and for the regulation of vital processes.

Nutrients provide the energy our bodies need to function. The term “fruit” has several meanings.

To a botanist, it means the part of a plant that contains seeds. According to this definition, fruits

include most nuts, as well as vegetables, such as cucumbers and tomatoes. On the other hand,

Vegetables are the edible parts of herbaceous plants. Herbaceous plants, sometimes just called

herbs, have stems that are softer and less woody than those of trees and shrubs. Vegetables are

good sources of fiber, minerals, and vitamins. Most vegetables are annuals, living for only one

growing season (Brown, T., 2020).

Between the Ming and Qing dynasties, Siomai is considered to have originated in

Hohhot. Siomai was served in tea houses as a secondary product as described by historical

materials (Chefjohnjun, 2018). Additionally, Filipinos considered siomai as one of the most

popular delicacies, and a favorite street food. Though this Philippine street food originated in

China, Filipinos improved the taste by enhancing the different varieties or recipes of siomai of

ground pork, fish, or even crab meat by adding it with peas or carrots then wrapped in wonton

wrapper to make it more appealing (Allan, 2014). These are usually steamed or fried before

being sold (BMSED, 2016). Since siomai is affordable and has good taste, Filipinos take it as a

light snack and a part of their main course.

Eggplant is a vegetable crop that is grown around the world and can provide significant

nutritive benefits thanks to its abundance of vitamins, phenolics and antioxidants. In addition,

eggplant has potential pharmaceutical uses that are just now becoming recognized. As compared
to other crops in the Solanaceae, few studies have investigated eggplant’s metabolic profile.

Metabolomics and metabolic profiling are important platforms for assessing the chemical

composition of plants and breeders are increasingly concerned about the nutritional and health

benefits of crops (Frary, A., 2018). Eggplant is mainly grown for vegetables and medicinal

purposes. The phytochemical analysis of eggplant shows that it is the rich source of various

essential compounds aspartic acid, tropane, flavonoids, lanosterol, gramisterol, steroid alkaloids,

glycoalkaloids, histidine, nasunin, oxalic acid, solasodine, ascorbic acid and tryptophan that are

present in fruits and leaves. It also contains low calories and high moisture contents. These

compounds were found helpful in the cure of various diseases like cancer, anti-inflammatory,

anti-asthmatic, anti-platelet hypo-lipidemic, and hypotensive etc. Today most modern scientific

techniques are available to cure different various health problems but still majority of population

across the globe depends upon the traditional herbal medicines and practices. This review mainly

explains nutritional content, medicinal and health benefits of S. melongena (Naeem, M.Y., 2019).

Sweet potatoes are becoming a research focus in recent years due to their unique

nutritional and functional properties. Bioactive carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, carotenoids,

anthocyanins, conjugated phenolic acids, and minerals represent versatile nutrients in different

parts (tubers, leaves, stems, and stalks) of sweet potato. The unique composition of sweet potato

contributes to their various health benefits, such as antioxidative, hepatoprotective, anti-

inflammatory, antitumor, antidiabetic, antimicrobial, anti-obesity, antiaging effects (Wang, S.,

2016). Sweet potato (Ipomea batatas L.) is a dicotyledonous plant that belongs to the family

Convolvulaceae. It isa short seasonal crop which reliably provides food on marginal and

degraded land with little labor and few or no input outside the farm. The present study revealed

that, sweet potato products are good sources of nutrients. Sweet potato chips, flakes and biscuits
were prepared by using standard methods. Organoleptic evaluation was conducted. Results

revealed that, SC-3 (sweet potato chips), SPF-3 (value added sweet potato flakes) and SB-2

(sweet potato biscuits) scored higher in all the sensory attributes. The nutrient composition of the

products contained a good amount of protein, fat, energy, carbohydrate, ash, crude fibre, β-

carotene and vitamin-C and also it contains better amount of minerals (potassium, magnesium,

zinc, iron, copper, manganese and sodium) (Senthilkumar R., Muragod P.P., and Muruli N. V.,

2019).
