Brief Description: The Learning Action Cell (LAC) is a school-based

continuing professional development strategy
designed to improve teaching and learning. It
focuses on collaborative learning among
teachers to address challenges and enhance
instructional practices. Here are some key points
about LAC and strategies to address lessons with
no/low mastery levels:

Learning Action Cell (LAC)

1. Purpose: LAC aims to create a professional

learning community where teachers can share
best practices, discuss challenges, and
collaboratively develop solutions to improve
student learning outcomes
2. Structure: LAC sessions are typically
conducted at least once a month and can be
held in-person or virtually. These sessions
involve collaborative planning, lesson study,

action research, and peer coaching.

Addressing Lessons with No/Low Mastery

Levels

1. Data Analysis: Begin by analyzing

assessment data specifically the quarterly
examination results to identify specific
competencies (MELCs) where students are
struggling. This helps in pinpointing the exact
areas that need improvement.

2. Differentiated Instruction: Tailor teaching

strategies to meet the diverse needs of
students. This can include varied instructional
methods, materials, and pacing.

3. Remedial Programs: Implement targeted

remedial programs for students who need
additional support. This can involve after-school
tutoring, small group instruction, or one-on-one
sessions.

4. Formative Assessments: Use formative

assessments regularly to monitor student
progress and adjust instruction accordingly. This
helps in identifying learning gaps early and
addressing them promptly.

5. Professional Development: Engage in

continuous professional development through
LAC sessions to learn new teaching strategies
and share experiences with colleagues.

6. Test item Construction: Define what you

want to assess. Ensure that each test item aligns
with the learning objectives and competencies
you aim to measure. Use a mix of question types
(e.g., multiple-choice, true/false, short answer,
essay) to assess different levels of
understanding and skills.
Ensure that the test measures what it is
supposed to measure (validity) and that it
produces consistent results over time
(reliability).

Factors to Consider for Increasing Test

Results
Student Engagement:

Foster a positive and engaging learning

environment to motivate students. Active
participation and interest in lessons can
significantly impact learning outcomes.

1. Parental Involvement: Encourage parental

involvement in their child’s education. Parents
can provide additional support and
reinforcement at home.
2. Resource Availability: Ensure that
adequate learning resources and materials are
available to both teachers and students. This
includes textbooks, digital resources, and
teaching aids.

3. Feedback Mechanism: Provide timely and

constructive feedback to students. This helps
them understand their strengths and areas for
improvement.

4. Collaborative Learning: Promote

collaborative learning activities where students
can learn from each other. Group work and peer
tutoring can enhance understanding and
retention of concepts.

By focusing on these strategies and leveraging

the collaborative nature of LAC, schools can
effectively address low mastery levels and
improve overall student performance.
