Background of the authors/date of publishing
Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm were scholars and folklore archivists from Germany. The brothers,
who were born in 1785 and 1786 respectively, spent their entire lives studying and collecting folklore
from all around the world. Together, they put together and released a number of story collections,
including "Rapunzel," which was later included in their well-known collection, "Grimms' Fairy Tales."
Older European folklore is where "Rapunzel" first appeared, but the Grimm Brothers improved it for
their collection. The Grimm Brothers initially published the "Rapunzel" story that we are familiar with in
their first volume of "Kinder- und Hausmärchen" in 1812.
Characters
I. Rapunzel - The eponymous protagonist of the story, holds a significant place within the
fairytale. Her character embodies innocence, vulnerability, and quiet strength.
II. The Witch - depicted as the primary antagonist, adds a layer of darkness to the story.
