how the chaser cannot reach players that are elevated from the “earth”.
•No One could identify who invented this chant and the game itself. All we know is that it is
handed down from our ancestors, to our parents until today’s generation.
•It can be played in any terrain like streets, an open court or a big open place/space, as long
as there is an elevated are to serve as “langit” to the players.

Mechanics of playing the Langit Lupa

•Players gather in a circle.
•One player points at everyone in succession while chanting “Langit, lupa, impyerno/Im-im-
impyerno / Saksak puso / tulo ang dugo / Patay, buhay / Maalis ka na diyaan” is used to
select the first “It.”
•The player the rhyme ends on becomes the “It.”
•The game is played in an area with accessible elevated surfaces (e.g., benches, stairs,
rocks).
•These elevated surfaces are called “Langit” (Heaven), and the ground is called “Lupa”
(Earth).
•The “It” stands on the ground (Lupa) while the other players are free to move around.
•Players must quickly find elevated spots to stand on to avoid being tagged by the “It.”
•Players can only stay on “Langit” for a limited time (usually a few seconds).
•If a player stays on “Langit” too long, the “It” can count aloud (1 to 5), and the player must
step down to “Lupa.”
•The “It” attempts to tag other players while they are on “Lupa.”
•Players must move quickly between elevated spots to avoid being tagged.
•The player tagged by the “It” becomes the new “It

Rules of playing Langit Lupa

•Players can only stay on “Langit” for a few seconds; they must step down to the “Lupa”
after a short time.
•If they stay on “Langit” for too long, the “It” can count aloud to a set number 1 to 5, and if
they’re still on “Langit” after that, they have to go down to “Lupa.”
•Players can jump from one elevated spot to another to avoid the “It.”
