DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL,

BULANDSHAHR
CLASS -XI
SUBJECT: ENGLISH
TOPIC: NOTICE WRITING

BY- DR RACHNA SHARMA

Notice writing is an art which aims
at using minimum words and
maximum meaning to give any
information, within a small notice
writing format.
WHAT IS A NOTICE?
A notice is a written or printed news announcement or
information. A notice may contain news/information
about something that has happened or is likely to
happen. It may be a formal announcement of public
importance or an advance warning meant for
compliance and information. A notice can be about a
meeting, an event, an excursion/a historical trip/a
picnic, lost and found, change of
name/address/uniform/timings/venue etc.
Points to remember :
1. Notice is always written in a box.

2. The name of the organization/institution is written in capital

letters.

3. It must be dated.

4. It should have the title, which is not a complete sentence.

5. It should always have the name, the designation and the signature
of the issuing authority.
6. Notice is generally written in complete sentences but at time
phrases are also acceptable.

7. As a notice usually announces an upcoming event/celebration, etc. so

future time reference is used while writing a notice.

8. A notice should have all the details related to the event. It must
have an answer to what, when, where, why, how.

9. The information should be presented accurately and concisely.

10. The language should be official. Use of first or second person (I or

you) must be generally avoided.
Common Errors
1. Students use ABC or XYZ for name and organisation.
They must assume some name and write it.

2. Name of the event should come first as given in the

format.

3. The signature should be done in the end and then the

full name of the issuing authority to be mentioned.
4. They must do it in one box, on one page only.
