Mission Statement
While running an organization, three questions speak of the company's culture
i.e. how you spend money, how much you spend and why you spend. Dinesh
Divekar helps companies to reduce procurement spending through his training
programmes.

Dinesh is a veteran in the field of procurement training. He started his career in

the Indian Air Force and conducted his first training programme in 1991.
Thereafter, he has been involved in the field of education. In 2001, he left the
Indian Air Force and worked for Amritsar Woolen Swadeshi Mills, Bangalore.
There he was in the Procurement Department. Later he started working for Federal Express
Corporation (FedEx). He was the Training Manager for the southern region of India. His stint in FedEx
gave him hands-on exposure to corporate training. He later tried his hand at the Hospitality Industry
and from 2007 onwards he has been on his own doing training programmes in various segments.

Result-driven or Solution-centric Training Programmes: - Dinesh conducts solution-driven training

programmes. To refer to the details, please refer to Appendix ‘A’ of this profile.

Research on Inventory Turnover Ratio: - Inventory Turnover Ratio (ITR) is an important ratio that
throws light on how a procurement function is managed. The higher the turnover of inventory, the
higher the effectiveness of the procurement department. Dinesh Divekar has done a sector-wise study
of ITR. The research is an ongoing exercise and so far he has studied 67 sectors starting from the
Financial Year 2005-06. This exhaustive research helps him in projecting the training requirements to
his clients.

Research on Failure in Managing the Inventory: - To conduct the survey, he had raised one question
on managing inventory on a famous networking forum i.e. www.linkedin.com The query attracted a
good response however, one of the groups of this forum i.e. “Supply Chain Today”, the query attracted
about 550 responses from procurement professionals spread across the world. These responses gave
him insight into how procurement professionals fail to manage the inventory. He along with the
co-member of the forum, Mr Anshuman Moudgil studied the responses. You can click here to read the
analysis of the survey.

Appendix ‘A’

Training programmes related to the supply chain can be made solution-centric. Following are a few
examples:

a) One of the clients told Dinesh that their stock value hovers between Rs 6-7 Crore (INR 60-70
million) whereas monthly sales were around Rs 3 Crore (INR 30 million). They wanted to reduce the
value of inventory.

b) One of the major electrical switch-making companies had not calculated its inventory carrying cost
scientifically. I helped them in doing it for their eight warehouses of the finished goods and one of the
raw materials.

c) One of the clients told me that 70% of raw materials are imported. Import was not a problem per se,
but the problem was that the suppliers were leaders in their industry and negotiating in the
monopolistic market was a big challenge.

d) A major garment house told me that whatever they could have done to reduce the prices of raw
materials through negotiations, they have done. Now they wanted to learn new techniques to reduce
the price.

e) A client who is a leader in the dairy business (with a procurement spend of Rs 2,000 Crore), said
that they wanted to prepare a Strategic Procurement Plan that can go for the next 3-5 years.

f) A client from Tamil Nadu imports crude palm oil, processes it and sells it to the traders. He had a
problem matching demand with supply. When he got orders, he did not have stock and when he had
stock, he did not have orders. I helped him in fixing this demand-supply mismatch.

The list of examples can go on. In each of the above cases, I helped them provide a solution.
