4. Classroom Rules Before we begin our class

discussion today, let me briefly
remind you about our classroom
rules.

1. Be respectful.
2. Every item not related to
our subject must be put
away.
3. Enjoy and have fun while
learning.
Understood?

That’s great to hear! Yes, Sir Grey!!

A. Reviewing previous Yesterday class we finished

lesson or presenting discussing about the process of
the new lesson eruption. Aside from that you
were tasked to make a diorama
of a volcano. Was everyone able
to finish? (Student’s answer may vary)

Ok, later on I will give you a few

minutes to finalize your
volcanoes.

B. Establishing a Tell me what do you think will

purpose for the happen in this scenario if the
lesson (Motivation) volcano continues to erupt? Sir, the lava, ash and other
ejecta of the volcano will reach
the people, sir.

That is exactly what will happen.

So, we can say that volcanic
eruptions can have a big impact
on human society.

C. Presenting examples/ And to further help us visualize

instances of the new how these eruptions happen we
lesson will be doing a simple
experiment.

Are you all ready? Yes sir.

D. Discussing new Now some of you might not

concepts and have had the chance to finish
practicing new skills your volcanoes. I will be giving
#1 you 10 minutes to polish up and
(1st d Formative complete your volcanoes. (Students will finalize their
Assessment) dioramas.)

The rest of the groups who are

finished can come up to the
front and I will check your
volcanoes and materials. (Some groups will come
forward.)

(Teacher will check dioramas

and materials brought by each
group, and ask questions about
their volcanoes.)
• What kind of volcano did
you make?
• What is the kind of
magma that forms this
volcano?

Now, that everyone has had

their volcano checked we will be
going to the shaded area in front
of the canteen to conduct our
volcanic eruption experiment. (Students will head down to the
experiment area.)
E. Discussing new Volcanic Eruption Experiment
concepts and (Teacher will document the
practicing new skills conduction of the activity (Students will conduct this
#2 simple Science Experiment.)
(2nd Formative Instructions:
Assessment)
You will all be doing the
experiment simultaneously. Give
space to each group so that
everyone can observe what is
happening.

First put in the liquids such as

your vinegar and dishwashing
liquid, for other groups who are
using cola do the same.

Next to the vinegar and

dishwashing solution add your
baking soda and step away
slightly so as not to get your
uniforms dirty. For the cola you
may add your mentos mints and
also stand back.

(After the students are done)

Ok class each group stand with

your volcanoes and I will take a
picture of each group, this will
serve as proof of you doing the
activity.

(Group pictures will be taken)

Those who are already done

with their picture taken please
clean up your area and do not
leave any trash behind.

Afterwards proceed back to the

classroom.

F. Developing mastery (Once everyone is back in the

(3rd Formative classroom)
Assessment)
Now class you were able to see
a simulation of a volcanic
eruption. In Our experiment the
combining of the materials such
as the baking soda and the
vinegar causes a chemical
reaction that produces salt,
water and most important for our
simulation carbon dioxide gas. Sir because the production of
Why is the gas important? the gas stimulated bubble
formation and this causes the
liquid inside the diorama
volcanoes to overflow out.

Yes, that is correct the same is

true for the coke and mentos
which produces carbon dioxide
also.

Now, when volcanoes erupt, we

are usually ever only concerned
about the magma and other
pyroclastic materials that come
out of the volcano. But there are
many secondary hazards that
an erupting volcano can bring.

Take a look at these pictures

and tell me what are some of
these secondary hazards? Sir, there is ash, flood, landslide
and tsunamis sir.

Very well-done class. That is

exactly right some of the
secondary hazards include
ashfall which can cause skin
and lung diseases. Then there
are also lahars which can wash
away homes, people and
animals. Another hazard is the
landslide than can occur due to
the violent shaking as the
volcano erupts, and if an
undersea volcano erupts there
is a high possibility of tsunamis.

After the eruption, the land

changes with new landforms
from lava and ash. Nearby
communities deal with cleaning
up ash, rebuilding and
monitoring for dangers.
Any questions class? None sir.

G. Finding practical Now understanding how a

applications of volcano erupt and all other
concepts and skills factors that affect its eruption is
in daily living a vital and important knowledge
(Application) that we must understand so that
in time when there are such
calamities we can be prepared
and keep not only ourselves but
also our families safe.

H. Making Volcanic eruptions can bring

generalizations and about great harm to
abstractions about communities in its immediate
the lesson vicinity not only because of its
(Abstraction) lava and ejecta. But we also
have to remember that volcanic
eruptions also bring about
positive effects such as;

• volcanic rock and ash

provide fertile land which
results in a higher crop
yield for farmers

• tourists are attracted to

the volcano, which
increases money to the
local economy

• geothermal energy can

be harnessed, which
provides free electricity
for locals

In general class, we as humans

are only living on this planet and
we cannot change the natural
occurrences like volcanic
eruptions. We have to learn to
be adaptive and respectful of
our environment. As it can not
only give, but also take away.

I. Evaluation learning On a whole sheet of paper write

(Assessment) an essay answering the
following question.

What are the things I must do in

order to keep myself and my
family safe from the primary and
secondary hazards; before,
during and after the occurrence
of a volcanic eruption?
J. Additional activities Tomorrow we will be taking on a
for application or new topic.
