Hazrat Umar participated in almost all battles and expiditions under Muhammad (P.B.U.H)
Also known as Battle of River, fought at Marj Rahit near modern Syria
It was fought between the Arab allies of Byzantine Empire who led the Heraclius and Rashidun
Army, which were under the command of Khalid bin Walid.
Battle of Qadisiya:
This battle took place between the Arab Muslims led by Khalid ibn Walid and the Saanian
Persian Empire.
Role of Hazrat Umer in this battle was decision making guidance, military strategy and planning
lead to the victory in battle.
Battle of Yarmuk:
Battle of Yarmuk was a major battle fought between Byzantine Empire and the Arab Muslim
forces of Rashidun Caliphate. The battle took place in Syria and is considered one of the most
significant battles in the early history of Islam.
Muslim victory at Yarmuk resulted in rapid expansion of the Islamic Emoure into the Byzantine
territories in the East, which includes present day Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Israel.
Battle of Jalula:
The city of Jalula in present day, Iraq strategically situated on the banks of the Diyala river. The
battle was fought between Sassanid Empire and Rashidun Caliphate.
Conquest of Persia:
Arab Muslims first attacked Sassanian territory in 633, when Khalid bin Walid invaded
Mesopotamia which was political and economic hub of Sassanid Empire.
The second Muslim invasion began in 636, under Sa’ad bin Abi Waqas, when a key victory at the
Battle of Qadisiyah led to the permanent end of Sassanian control of modern-day west Iran
In 642, Hazrat Umar ordered a full-scale invasion of Persia by the Rashidun Caliphate which led
to the complete conquest of the Sassanid Empire by 651.
Battle of Bridge:
Abu Ubayda and Muthanna raised an army against the 4000 men strong Persian army.
The built a bridge of boats across the river but were overrun when they crossed to the other
side because of the Persian cavalry.
The Muslims were trapped when the bridge collapsed. Muthanna managed to bring back the
remaining army after the death of Abu Ubaydah.
Battle of Buwaib:
Muthanna encouraged his men to fight despite their previous defeat. The 12000 men strong
Persian army was in chaos when their leader was killed.
The Muslims blocked access to the bridge, thus trapping the runaway soldiers. The Muslims,
were therefore able to win and end the fear and awe the Arabs had for the Persians.
