DECK PREPARATION

Ensure that the Keel Block Arrangement is done as per drawing, checked
and approved between Dock Manager and Port engineer and blocks are
1 clear of bottom Plugs, sensors, logs and sea Chests and documented
evidence is present. Block arrangement to be revised according to dock
type (graving vs floating dock)
Ensure that the Vessel’s floating characteristics and loading condition
2 (draught, list, trim, and amount of fluid in each tank) are communicated and
recorded to Dock Manager.
Chemical and dangerous goods (flammable liquids to be listed separately)
3 to be listed and communicated to port/shipyard/dock manager

4 Ensure the repair list is ready and handed over to Dock Manager?

Ensure all necessary services location and type of connection for shore
5 connection, cooling water etc. Is identified on the vessel and
communicated to the Dock Manager.
Dock condition (graving or floating?) check the condition of the dock and
6 record the current conditions, which mooring system in place? Discuss with
Master plan of attack and record the same.
Finance (Accounts) & Crewing dept. to be informed in writing of ETA of
7 vessel into port with corresponding duration of works (e.g. off/on hire date)

PRIOR TO DOCKING

Ensure the vessel is clean and dry in particular, minimum water in cargo
1 tanks, deck to be free of Sand, Clay Mud and other debris.
Ensure all alleyways, corridors and vessel's meeting room/office are
2 covered with cardboard/strong paper/plastic to protect the floor from
grease, dirt, dust etc. during the Docking period
Security of Ships Components and Spares
3 Ensure all spare parts/tools, fire nozzles etc.… onboard are secured and
protected against stealing or burglary
Ensure vessel’s displacement/trim/list/draught etc.… has been discussed,
4 approved and recorded by the Dock Master
Properly brief and inform the crew about their specific duties regarding:
5 - Dry Dock hazards and safety precautions
- The use of tugs and mooring boats

6 Handling of mooring lines and ropes (Supplied by yard or ship)

Make sure emergency response arrangements are in place and known by


7 all parties (tel. numbers, persons in charge, etc…)
Ensure that accommodation facilities out of bounds and protected from
8 entry of dock yard personnel
Ensure that it is clearly mentioned that the accommodation is a restricted
9 area for third parties
In the case vessel has to use own mooring ropes for dock entry/leaving,
10 ensure that is it verified and documented that the ropes are in perfect
condition on return
Towing arrangement to be discussed with port/shipyard (quantity of tugs,
11 comm channel, etc…)

12 Ensure all vessels tanks have been sounded and recorded

If a deck generator is used, ensure full service has been done prior fitment
13 on board and planned maintenance program is in place with the supplier for
the docking period
If required OUT/IN SURVEY prior receiving/delivery of vessel to be
conducted in conjunction with all concerned parties e.g. client, bunker
14
surveyor, regional tech. superintendent, QHSE, management, etc…all to be
recorded in DD file.

WHEN ENTERING THE DOCK

WHEN SAFELY ON THE BLOCKS

1 Obtain approval from the Dock Master to use the deck crane
2 Obtain approval from the Dock Master to empty ballast tanks as required
3 Review and sign off any specific Master Standing Orders for the Dry Dock
4 Equipment to be tagged and locked out where necessary

PRIOR TO DOCKING

Check and verify that all underwater work mentioned on the repair/work list

is completed to a satisfactory standard
Ensure all openings in the ship's bottom are clear of equipment, scaffolding
2 etc…all gratings, rope guards and plates properly secured, and shafting
and rudder not obstructed
Ensure the sea chests in full working condition and all securing locks/wires

in place
Check that the ship's tanks are in the same level/condition as they were
4
when the ship entered the dock
Ensure that impressed current anodes, echo sounder transducer, DLM
5
transducers are free of paint and masking material

6 Ensure all manholes are properly closed

Ensure ALL bottom plugs are in place and properly secured. Vacuum
7
checked and cemented as required
Ensure the vessel's Master and Dock Master discuss the undocking of the
8
vessel and mooring/unmooring process identify if tugs are involved
Ensure all required crew members are informed about the tugboat positions
9
and their specific undocking and mooring/unmooring duties

10 Ensure all bilge alarms are working and tested

11 Are all tanks (fuel, ballast, FW) alarms working and tested

Check all covered anodes, protection has been removed and all welds
12
inspected
Ensure Stern Tube seals (aft) filled with oil and rope guards installed back
13
correctly incl. rope cutters
Ensure that the stern tubes and CPP are filled with lube oil and oil quantity
14 used matches the capacity as per the manual, incl. working of bearing
temp. sensors if fitted.
Check the rudders are free of any obstruction and operation test conducted
15
satisfactorily (full to PS/SB)
16 Ensure that main, Bow and Stern thruster CPP functional test is done as

per manufacturer recommendation ensuring all remote indicators are


aligned to the position of the blades during full travel
Ensure all ship side valves including FIFI is confirmed to be installed back
17 in place and in closed position. All pipework is fitted back or blanked as
required
Ensure that the required Shipyard personnel is on board during

flooding/undocking of the vessel (pipe fitters, mechanics, etc…)
