PC - 12 - SB - 32 Service Bulletin
1. Planning Information
A. Effectivity
All PC-12 and PC-12/45 aircraft from MSN 101 up to and including MSN 320 which have main
landing gears with the Part Numbers 532.10.12.043 or 532.10.12.047 (Left) and 532.10.12.044
or 532.10.12.048 (Right).
S
SE
All PC-12 and PC-12/45 aircraft which have Service Bulletins 32-005 or 32-006 incorporated.
B. Concurrent Requirements
PO
This Service Bulletin supersedes Service Bulletin 32-006.
C. Reason
(1) Problem
R
PU
(a) Pre-Service Bulletin 32-006 aircraft.
In some aircraft the bolts which safety the main landing gear (MLG) trailing link
G
pivot-pins (axles) have broken. Some axles have also been found to be corroded.
IN
In some aircraft the movement of the MLG trailing link assemblies is not smooth.
Unusual noises can be heard when the trailing link assemblies are moved. Also, the
AN
bushes which support the axles show signs of wear and a small quantity have
become loose.
PL
(2) Cause
Very cold temperatures can make the grease in the MLG trailing link assemblies
become hard and reduce its lubrication properties. The friction thus caused,
FO
prevents free movement of the axle which increases the (shear) force on the safety
bolt during landings.
It is also easier for hard grease to wash out from between the components. This
decreases the corrosion protection properties of the grease.
The layer of cadmium protection material on the surfaces of the (post Service
Bulletin 32-006) axles can wear quickly because it is softer than the adjacent
components. The eroded particles have a chemical effect on the grease in the MLG
and trailing link assemblies which becomes hard and abrasive. This causes friction
and subsequently, wear.
(3) Solution
Replace the pre and post Service Bulletin 32-006 axles with new axle assemblies which
have hard chrome surfaces. Operators are also recommended to replace the axle bush
S
bearings (bushes) if they have worn to 50% or more of the permitted limit.
SE
D. Description
PO
• Inspect and, if necessary, replace the axle bushes in the MLG and trailing link assemblies
• Replace the axles.
