TASK 32-41-11-000-006-A Removal of the MLG Wheel

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON

C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration

(1) Install the safety devices on the landing gears (Ref. 32-00-00-481-001).

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE AIRCRAFT IS STABLE AND DOES NOT
MOVE DURING THE JACKING OPERATIONS.

IF THERE IS UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE AIRCRAFT, THE

LANDING-GEAR JACKING DOME CAN COME OFF THE JACK
HEAD AND INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE CAN OCCUR.
(2) Do one of the steps that follow:

(a) If you want to remove the MLG wheel from one of the two MLGs (LH or
RH), lift the applicable MLG axle (Ref. 07-12-00-582-002).

Make sure that you do not lift the two MLG axles at the same time.

Make sure that you do not remove more than one MLG wheel at the
same time.

(b) If you want to remove the MLG wheel(s) from the two MLGs (LH and
RH), lift the aircraft on jacks (Ref. 07-11-00-581-001).

(3) Put the PARK BRK control switch to the ON position.

(a) On panel 400VU, make sure that the brake pressure indication on the
Yellow brake-pressure triple indicator is correct.

(b) If necessary, pressurize the brake accumulator with the Yellow hydraulic
system (Ref. 29-10-00-863-002) or (Ref. 29-24-00-863-001).

NOTE: It is not necessary to do this step, if you have removed the MLG
wheel(s) from the two MLGs (LH and RH) and the aircraft is on
jacks.

WARNING: DECREASE THE TIRE PRESSURE TO APPROXIMATELY 2 BAR

(29 PSI) BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE WHEEL. THIS WILL
PREVENT A POSSIBLE EXPLOSION.
(4) Decrease the tire pressure as follows:

(Ref. Fig. MLG Wheel)

NOTE: If you must remove the wheel for access or inspections, it is not
necessary to deflate the tire if:

The tire is in the correct condition.

The tire pressure is in the normal operating range (Ref. 32-41-00-

210-003).

If you do not find these two conditions, it is necessary to decrease

the tire pressure.

(a) Remove the cap (51) from the inflation valve (50).
(b) Attach the ADAPTER - TIRE INFLATION/DEFLATION to the inflation
valve (50).
(c) Decrease the tire pressure until the pressure gage of the ADAPTER -
TIRE INFLATION/DEFLATION shows between 1.79 bar (26 psi) and
2.20 bar (32 psi).
(d) Remove the ADAPTER - TIRE INFLATION/DEFLATION.
(e) Put the cap (51) on the inflation valve (50) and tighten it.

WARNING: DEFLATE THE TIRES TO LESS THAN 2 BAR (29 PSI) BEFORE
YOU REMOVE A WHEEL ASSEMBLY THAT HAS A DAMAGED OR

(1) Before you remove the wheel, do a check of the wheel assembly for missing,
broken or loose tie-bolts (52) and for damaged or worn tires.

PIN. DISCARD LOOSE OR USED COTTER PINS IMMEDIATELY. A
LOOSE OR USED COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU
BLIND.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE AXLE THREAD PROTECTOR IS

CORRECTLY INSTALLED ON THE AXLE.

YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE AXLE SLEEVE AND THE

AXLE WHEN YOU REMOVE/INSTALL A WHEEL IF THE AXLE
THREAD PROTECTOR IS:

NOT USED.

NOT FULLY ENGAGED ON THE AXLE.

(1) Remove and discard the cotter pins (5) and the nuts (4).

(2) Remove the washers (6) and the bolts (8).

(4) Install the PROTECTOR-MLG AXLE (MHB) (Q47316) or PROTECTOR-

AXLE,MLG (5E92-0300) or PROTECTOR (F46754-1000) .

(5) Apply a thin layer of Material Ref. 03GBB1 Synthetic Oil base Grease-
General Purpose Clay Thickened - or Material Ref. 03GCB1 Synthetic Oil
base Grease-Landing Gear Wheel Bearing Lithium Thickened - on the axle
protector.

(6) Put a TROLLEY - WHEEL CHANGE, A/C below the wheel assembly (1).

(7) Remove the wheel assembly (1).

(8) Record the reason for removal of the wheel.

(a) Prepare a tag and attach it to the wheel and tire assembly.

(b) Write on the tag the reason for removal of the tire.

correctly installed and safetied with a nut and a cotter pin.

(2) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean
and in the correct condition.

(3) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.

(4) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.

(a) Examine the locking holes and the adjacent areas carefully.

(5) Remove all particles of dust from the brake.

(6) Do an inspection of the brake with the wheel removed (Ref. 32-42-27-210-
006)

(a) If the brake is unserviceable, replace it (Ref. 32-42-27-000-001) and

(Ref. 32-42-27-400-001).

(7) Make sure that the driving keys on the brake rotors are correctly aligned.

(8) Make sure that the splines (9) of the tachometer drive shaft (10) are in the
correct condition.

(a) If you find damage, replace the related parts.

(9) Clean the axle sleeve (2) with Material Ref. 08BBB1 Non Aqueous Cleaner--
Petroleum Based - and dry it with AIR SOURCE FILTERED, DRY or AIR
SOURCE - REGULATED, FILTERED, DRY.

(10) Do a visual inspection of the axle protective sleeve to make sure that it is in
correct condition.

(11) If you find damage, refer to the CMM for the permitted tolerance.

CAUTION: WHEN YOU INSTALL THE AXLE NUT, MAKE SURE THAT THE
RETAINING RING IS CORRECTLY INSTALLED IN ITS GROOVE. IF
THE RETAINING RING IS NOT CORRECTLY INSTALLED IN ITS
GROOVE, THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE AXLE SLEEVE.
(12) Make sure that the retaining ring (3) of the axle sleeve (2) is in the correct
position.

(13) Clean the splines (9) of the tachometer drive shaft (10) with Material Ref.

(7) TORQUE the axle nut (7) between 25 and 30 m.daN ( between 184.37 and
221.24 lbf.ft) while you turn the wheel in the same direction.

(8) Make sure that the wheel does not turn and loosen the axle nut (7) gradually.

(9) TORQUE the axle nut (7) again until you get a torque value between 5 and
10 m.daN ( between 36.87 and 73.75 lbf.ft).

NOTE: It can be necessary to do steps (8) and (9) more than one time to get
the specified torque value.

(10) TORQUE the axle nut (7) between 15 and 19 m.daN ( between 110.62 and
140.12 lbf.ft) while you turn the wheel in the same direction.

(11) Tighten the axle nut (7) until the holes in the nut are aligned with the holes in
the axle.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL THE BOLT HEADS AGAINST
THE INNER SIDE OF THE AXLE NUT, AND THE WASHERS AND
NUTS AGAINST THE OUTER SIDE OF THE AXLE NUT. IF YOU DO
NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO
THE MAIN WHEEL.
(12) Install the bolts (8), the washers (6) and the new 32111301-210NUT(4) or
32118561-210NUT(4) or 32111303-210NUT(4).

(13) TORQUE the nuts (4) between 0.4 and 0.45 m.daN ( between 35.40 and
39.82 lbf.in).

(14) Safety the nuts (4) with the new 32111301-200PIN(5) or 32118561-
200PIN(5) or 32111303-200PIN(5).

(15) After each MLG wheel change:

(a) Move the rotating mechanism of the MLG wheel manually to make sure
that it moves freely.

(7) Turn the wheel in the direction of the axle nut rotation and TORQUE the axle
nut (7) between 40 and 44 m.daN ( between 294.99 and 324.48 lbf.ft).

(8) Prevent the rotation of the wheel and loosen the axle nut (7) to 0 torque.

(9) Turn the wheel in the direction of the axle nut rotation and TORQUE the axle
nut (7) between 20 and 22 m.daN ( between 147.49 and 162.24 lbf.ft).

(10) Tighten the axle nut (7) until the holes in the nut are aligned with the holes in
the axle.
