Woodland Winter Mittens Thumb Finishing

Place 20 held thumb sts back onto needles. Attach yarn with the

M1L (Make 1 Left-leaning stitch): PU the bar between st just
yarn, leaving a 6” tail of MC. With a yarn needle, pass this tail
worked and next st and place on LH needle as a regular stitch;
through the remaining live sts and pull tight to close the hole.

All 12 of the mittens begin and end with simple ribbing, which can
be adjusted for length to suit your hands.

With MC, CO 56 (60) sts onto smaller needles. PM and join in the
round, being careful not to twist sts. Work in K2, P2 rib for 2”.
Switch to larger needles.
Size S/M, Next round: (K14, M1) four times: 60 sts.
Size M/L, Next round: Knit.

Begin working from either Left or Right Hand chart of any pair of
mittens. All increases, color changes and thumb gusset stitches
are shown in the chart. Place markers for thumb gusset around
the first increased st on round 5 of the chart. On round 25, knit to
the first gusset marker, remove marker and place 20 thumb sts on
holder or scrap yarn. Remove second marker and continue with
the next live st of round 25.

After last round of the chart, place one half of the sts on one
needle and one half on another (or two ends of a circular needle).
With MC, graft the two sides together using Kitchener stitch.
