Chapter - 1
Introduction

6
Introduction
 Applications of fluid mechanics in aerodynamics,
hydrodynamics, marine engineering and general
mechanical engineering applications are numerous.

 Determining the resistance of motion of automotives,

aircrafts, ships and submarines.

 Pumps, turbines, compressors, drainage, irrigation,

fluid flow through pipes and conduits.

 Heat transfer analysis, design of heat exchangers

refrigeration and HVAC applications.
7
 Fluid transmission ( transmit fluids ) and fluid power
applications ( circuit, equipments for force and power
transmission ).

 The analogy of flow fields is still extended to force

fields, such as gravitational field, magnetic and
electromagnetic fields and similar potential fields.

 The analogy of fluid flow to other types of flow such

as flow of electricity and heat.
