Moly-Cop Tools is a software package for analyzing mineral ore grinding circuits using Excel spreadsheets. It includes simulators, models, and calculations for operations like ball mills, SAG mills, and hydrocyclones.

Moly-Cop Tools is used to help process engineers characterize and evaluate the operating efficiency of mineral ore grinding circuits using standardized methodologies.

The basic system requirement for using Moly-Cop Tools is having Microsoft Excel 2000 or later with the SOLVER add-in activated.

About the Moly-Cop Tools Software Package ... Version 2.

0 (November, 2005)

General Scope of Applications : Moly-Cop Tools is a set of easy-to-use Excel 2000 spreadsheets, designed to help Process Engineers in the mineral industry, characterize and evaluate the operating efficiency of any given mineral ore grinding circuit, following standardized methodologies and widely accepted evaluation criteria. In addition to the simulators and associated mass balance and parameter estimation routines for conventional and semiautogenous grinding circuits, Moly-Cop Tools includes additional spreadsheets for the more traditional Bonds Theory calculations, mill power draw correlations, ball charge formulae, hydrocyclone models and other general utility functions. System Requirements : The basic system requirement for the proper utilization of Moly-Cop Tools is to have access to Microsoft Excel 2000 (or later), with the SOLVER add-in activated.

Installation and General Guidelines to Users : As Moly-Cop Tools is an ensemble of Excel 2000 applications, the user is required to have previously developed the most basic capabilities about the proper use of such software package. Installing Moly-Cop Tools in your hard disk is as easy as copying the various files from the original source (CD, pen drive or e-mail attachments). It is suggested to create a special Directory for such purpose, under the name Moly-Cop Tools, preserving the original given names of every file. As any particular Moly-Cop Tools spreadsheet may be later saved under any other different name, it is further suggested to create an Applications Subdirectory where the frequent user could store previous runs for later reference or data reprocessing. For instance, a Consultant or Process Analyst using the BallParam_Direct spreadsheet to analyze data pertaining to Project A could save the resulting file as Project A_BallParam in the Applications Subdirectory and such new file (containing all data and programming code) could be readily located whenever needed in the future, as the Windows Explorer will list it next to the related Project A_BallSim, the Project A_SAGParam or whatever other spreadsheets the person has been utilizing for the same activity. Many Moly-Cop Tools spreadsheets include pre-designed Reports in a format ready to be printed and attached to any kind of formal document related to the general activity. In some cases, the Data_File worksheet may be printed as a Report. The simulators incorporated to Moly-Cop Tools are focused on the basic, isolated unit operations : Ball Mills, SAG Mills and Classification with Hydrocyclones. Experienced users may easily create complete flowsheet simulators by properly linking the inputs and outputs of the various spreadsheets, as needed by the specific flowsheet configuration to be simulated. For instance, for a typical doublestage SAG/Ball Mill circuit, the feedrate cell and the feed size distribution cells in Data_File of a copy of BallSim_Reverse may be directly linked to the output cells of the Trommel Undersize stream in Reports of a copy of SAGSim_Open. This is how the Multistage Flowsheet (SABC-1 and SABC-2) applications were developed. Every Moly-Cop Tools file includes an attached About ... worksheet that explains its scope, theoretical framework and specific data input and program execution guidelines. A very simple underlying protocol has been established for data input purposes : "All of the input data required by the various routines must be defined in the corresponding unprotected white background cells - inside the red double-lined borders - of the included Data_File or Control_Panel worksheets. Gray background cells contain the results of the corresponding formulae there defined and are protected to avoid any accidental editing" (see below about Deleting Cell Protection).

About the Moly-Cop Tools Software Package ... Version 2.0 (November, 2005) The cells outside the red double-lined borders are also unprotected for user's own applications. When opening a Moly-Cop Tools spreadsheet, if you are requested to Enable Macros ?, it is important to click on the Yes button; otherwise some search routines will not be available to be run. For the Macros to perform properly, one of the Tools/Macro/Security/Medium or Low options must be selected. Deleting Cells Protection : If for any reason, you would desire to delete Cells Protection in any given spreadsheet, you may do so by following the procedures established in Excel 2000, using the editing password : JES. It is strongly recommended however to save an original copy of the file, as improper editing of any gray background cell will for certain destroy the spreadsheet in very many possible ways that may remain unnoticed for a long time.
