REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify the customer concern of the (BSM) OFF indicator light flashing in the instrument cluster and that DTC
U3000:54 is stored in memory.
2. Visually inspect the rear bumper surface for excessive dirt, scratches, deformities or foreign material
attached to the bumper. These can all affect the BSM from operating properly.
- If the rear bumper surface has any of the above, clean or repair the bumper surface, then re-test the BSM
system.
- If the rear bumper surface is clean and in normal condition, proceed to step 3.
NOTE: Even a minor impact to the bumper can cause a misalignment of the BSM, which may also
cause DTC U3000:54 to be stored in memory. However, this is not covered under warranty.
Re-align the module and re-test the BSM.
3. Replace both side BSM control modules with modified parts according to the instructions on MS3 online or
the Workshop Manual (section 09-22).
• Mazda3: BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

• CX-9: BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) RADAR TEST
NOTE: When performing the blind spot monitoring radar test according to the instructions on the M-MDS

CAUTION: When the M-MDS instructs you to start the engine, wait at least five (5) seconds before press-
ing the check mark. If the test fails for any reason, turn the ignition off, wait for at least three (3)
seconds, then repeat the test from the beginning.
