Note: You may assign your own numbering at pertinent P= 0.6 Mpaa,
points. Use the H2O properties below except when T=500 C
calculating for the actual enthalpy of H2O from the (reheated)
CFWH. Create /write working equations, substitute
values : no shortcuts. Total amount of steam circulated

PROBLEM ON REGENERATIVE CYCLE WITH 1 OPEN FEEDWATER

HEATER AND 1 CLOSED FEEDWATER HEATER

NOTE: No shortcuts: you can use the properties provided below and
write all equations and substitution involved.

Consider a regenerative cycle with one CFWH as the last heater

(before the boiler/SGU), and one OFWH after the condenser. The
SGU supplies steam to the Turbine at pressure = 10 Mpaa, and
temperature of 600 deg.C. At 1.2 Mpaa in the turbine, steam is
extracted to the CFWH with a TD of 4.0 degrees. Steam continues to
expand at the turbine until another extraction is performed to heat
the feedwater at the OFWH, at pressure = 0.6 Mpaa. At this point, all
remaining steam (at the extraction point) is reheated to a pressure =
0.6 Mpaa, and temp. =500 C. This remaining steam is supplied to the
turbine and allowed to expand to a pressure = 10 kPaa, before a
Condenser that liquefies steam for another cycle. Consider all
6. What is the Combined Steam Rate? adiabatic efficiencies (pump and turbine) to be 89%. Determine:
Answer:3.598 kJ/kW-hr
1. Draw the TS diagram based on the designated points.
7. What is the Ideal Heat Rate? 2. Calculate the thermal efficiency of the purely ideal cycle in percent.
Answer:8136.02 kJ/kW-hr Answer:44.25%
3. Calculate the thermal efficiency of the actual cycle in percent.
8. If Cp water = 4.187 KJ/kg-K; cooling water enters Answer:41.79%
the condenser at 12 deg C and leaves at 20 deg C, 4. How much toque is produced in KJ at the shaft connecting the
find amount of cooling water needed by the
generator to turbine if brake engine efficiency =93% and generator
condenser in kg/sec for the plant capacity in item 5.
Answer:271.85 kg/s rpm = 1800? Answer:7.55 kJ
5. What is the plant capacity in MW if total mass of steam circulated
9.What is the actual engine efficiency? is 5 kg/ sec and the combined engine efficiency is 80%?
Answer:41.64%
Answer:6.12 MW
