Science SMART 7 Chapter 3-Ans Key
2. The roots spread out from the base of the plant so that they absorb water
and from a wider area.
Check My Understanding (Pg 25)
1st picture (Top-down)
The skeletal system, nervous system, respiratory system and the circulatory system are involved.
Note: To be able to jog, our respiratory and circulatory system need to work harder here to
support the activity.
2nd picture
The skeletal system, nervous system and digestive system are involved.
Note: The respiratory and circulatory systems are involved all the time. The focus here should be
the digestive, skeletal and nervous systems. We need to move our arm/hand and finger to eat.
We need to open our mouth to send food into our body. The nervous system needs to coordinate
all the movement. Once the food enters our mouth, the digestive system will start to break down
the food.
3rd picture
The skeletal system and nervous systems are involved.
Note: Though respiratory and circulatory systems are involved, the focus in the 3rd picture is how
our body (hand/arm) reacts when we are near a hot object.
Revision (Pg 25)
1. a)
b) Leaf
The leaf is where photosynthesis occurs. It helps the plant
produce food and allows the exchange of gas between the leaf
and the surrounding air.
Root
The root anchors the plant to the soil, stores food, absorbs and
transports water and nutrients from the soil to other parts of the

plant.
Stem
The stem provides support for the plant, stores food and
transports water and nutrients from the roots to the leaves.
Flower
The flower attracts pollinators and is where reproduction occurs.
2. Cells that perform the same function group together to form a tissue. Tissues of
different types then group together to form an organ. One or more organs
work together to form an organ system.
3. Pollination will not occur for flowering plants. Flowering plants will not be able
to reproduce and could become endangered or extinct.
4. a) The digestives system is involved in the nutrition of living things.
Respiratory system
Trachea/Bronchi/Lung
Circulatory system
Blood vessel/Heart
