40 Hadeeths
In the Signs of Tawheed

In the name of Allah, the most Merciful, the very Merciful

And there is no might and strength except with Allah the High and the
Almighty

The Imam, Shaykh ul-Islam, the lantern of Sunnah Abu Nasr Ahmed bin
Omar Bin Mohammed Bin Abdillah Bin Mohammed Bin Ali Bin Ishaaq
informed us in what I read to him saying “ The Imam and the Supporter
of the Sunnah, Imam of Imams Abu Isma’eel Abdullah Bin Mohammed
Bin Ali Al-Ansari – may Allah have mercy on him- informed us saying:
Chapter 1: Obligation of sincere intention in every action
On the authority of Alqama, I heard Umar Ibn ul-Khattab -may Allah be
pleased with him- say: “Actions are but by the intentions and each
person will have but that which he intended.”
Chapter 2: Obligation of giving sincere advice to every Muslim
On the authority of Jareer Bin Abdillah – may Allah be pleased with him-
who said: “I gave the pledge of allegiance to Allah's Messenger (‫ )ﷺ‬for
offering the prayers perfectly paying the Zakat and giving good advice to
every Muslim.”

Chapter 3: Severity of the sin for the one who conceals

knowledge

On the authority of Abdullah Bin Amr – may Allah be pleased with both
of them – that the messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said: “Whoever conceals
knowledge, Allah will bridle him with reins of fire on the Day of
Resurrection.”
Chapter 4: Obligation of all creations to accept and
acknowledge Allah’s attributes

Narrated Abdullah (Bin Mas’oud):

A man from the people of the Book came to Allah's Messenger (‫ )ﷺ‬and
said, "O Muhammad! Allah will put the Heavens on one finger and the
earths on one finger, and the mountains on one finger, and the rest of
the creation on one finger, and then will say, 'I am the King.' "On that
Allah's messenger ‫ ﷺ‬smiled until his molars appeared then recited, "No
just estimate have they made of Allah such as due to Him”
Fudhayl and Sufyan added: “He ‫ ﷺ‬smiled of amazement and as
confirmation” End Quote.
Chapter 5: Response to the one who conceals hadeeths about
Allah’s attributes

Narrated to us, from Thabit Al-Bunani, from Anas bin Malik – may Allah
be pleased with him-, that the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬recited this Ayah: “So when his
Lord appeared to the mountain, He made it collapse to dust” (7:143) -
Anas pointed the tip of his little finger so did Thabit. Humayd At-Tawwel
(Thabit’s student) asked: “What do you want with this (ie little finger) oh
Aba Mohammed”. Thabit raised his hand and struck Humayd’s chest
saying: “Who are you Oh Humayd? What are you Oh Humayd? Anas Bin
Malik narrated to me a hadeeth from the prophet ‫ ﷺ‬and you dare say:
“What do you want with this”.
Chapter 6: Clarification of the statement that Allah is living
On the authority of Abu Hurayra – may Allah be pleased with him-, the
messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said: "Verily! Allah has ninety-nine Names and He
is witr (one) and loves 'the witr' (i.e., odd numbers). Whoever retains
them in his memory will enter Paradise." He listed the names and in
them is Al-Hayy (the Ever-living)
Chapter 7: Clarification of the evidence that Allah does not sleep
On the authority of Abu Musa, the Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬was standing
amongst us and (he said) four things: “Verily Allah does not sleep and it
does not befit Him to sleep. He raises the scale and lowers it. The deeds
of the day are raised to Him in the night and the deeds of the night in the
day. His veil is Fire if He were to remove it, the glory of his Face would
burn everything as far as His gaze reaches.”
Chapter 8: Evidence that Allah - Blessed, High and Glorified is He- is
“a ‫ش ْيء‬
َ (thing/something)”

Narrated Asmaa Bint Abi Bakr – may Allah be pleased with both of them-

having a greater sense of Ghira (jealousy) than Allah.”

person)”

Sa'd bin 'Ubada – may Allah be pleased with him- said:
If I were to see a man with my wife, I would have struck him with the
sword, and not with the flat part (side) of it. When Allah's Messenger ‫ﷺ‬
heard of that, he said: Are you surprised at Sa'd's jealousy of his honour?
By Allah, I am more jealous of my honour than he, and Allah is more
jealous than I. Because of His jealousy Allah has prohibited abomination,
both open and secret and no person is more jealous of his honour than
Allah, and no persons, is more fond of accepting an excuse than Allah,
on account of which He has sent messengers, announcers of glad tidings
and warners; and no one is more fond of praise than Allah on account of
which Allah has promised Paradise.

creation, the number of His words, as much as pleases Him (His Spirit),
Glory be to Him”

with his black, non-Arab slave girl came to the prophet ‫ ﷺ‬and said: “I
have to free a slave, is this (slave girl) enough? He ‫ ﷺ‬asked (her): “Where
is Allah” to which she replied by pointing with her hand to the heavens.
He ‫ ﷺ‬then asked (her): “Who am I?” to which she replied: “you are the
messenger of Allah”. He ‫ ﷺ‬then said (to her master): “Free her for she is
a believer”.

on him (Adam) so he got lower to the ground by seventy cubits high.”

with him-.
Chapter 23: Allah created Al-Firdaws with His hand
Narrated Anas bin Malik – may Allah be pleased with him- that the
prophet ‫ ﷺ‬said: “Allah created Al-Firdaws with His hand and forbade it
to every Mushrik and to drunk, addicted to wine.”

with His speech (talked to you directly) and He wrote (the Torah) for you
with His Own Hand. Do you blame me for a matter which Allah had
decreed in my fate forty years before my creation?” Adam prevailed over
Moosa. Adam prevailed over Moosa. Adam prevailed over Moosa.”

(this is) a prayer I see you supplicate so frequently.” He ‫ ﷺ‬said: “There is

forgiveness so I may forgive him?’ until the dawn breaks.”

reported saying about the verse ‘And We did not make the sight which
We showed you except as a trial for the people,’ (17:60) that it is the
sight that the messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬saw when he was ascended to the
heavens.
This is the wording from narrator Abdul Jabbar; narrator ‘Amr bin Hafs
added: ‘and it is not a dream or a vision.’
Chapter 33: The believers seeing their Lord – Exalted is He- on
the day of resurrection with their own eyes
Jareer – may Allah be pleased with him- reported: We were on a journey
with the Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬when he looked at the full moon and
said, "You shall see your Lord with your own eyes as you are seeing this
(ie moon); and you will have no trouble in seeing Him, so if you can avoid
missing a prayer before sunrise (ie Fajr) and a prayer before sunset (ie

Chapter 40:
Imam Abu Hatim Ar-Raazi narrated with a chain of narrators to Ahmed
Bin Mohamed who asked whether the Quran is from the preserved
slate; it was to him “we say so as Allah -the most High- said: ‘Rather this
is an honoured Qur'an [Inscribed] in a Preserved Slate.’ (85:21-22)
Therefore the Quran is inscribed in the Preserved Slate and it is in the
chests of those who were given knowledge. Allah – the most High- said:
‘Rather, the Qur'an is distinct verses [preserved] within the breasts of
those who have been given knowledge. And none reject Our verses
except the wrongdoers.’ (29:49). It is recited in the tongues as Allah -the
most High- said: ‘Move not your tongue with it, [O Muhammad], to
hasten with recitation of the Qur'an.’ (75:16).
Literally speaking, the Quran is written in our Mushafs, literally
preserved in our chests, literally recited in our tongues and literally
heard to us as the Most High said: ‘[…] and grant him protection so that
he may hear the words of Allah.’ (9:6)
This is the last quote by Imam Al-Bayhaqee extracted from the book of
Al-Ibaana. Imam Al-Bayhaqee also said at the start of the chapter after
using evidences from verses and other as mentioned in the book of Al-
Ibaana and said: ‘Ali Bin Isma’eel (Abul Hasan Al-Ash’ari) used this
chapter as evidence’.
