Region 6: Western Visayas

Geography and Location

 Location: Central part of the Philippines


 Boundaries: Bounded by the Visayan Sea to the north, Panay Gulf to the south, Negros
Island to the east, and Sulu Sea to the west.
 Islands: Comprises several islands including Panay, Guimaras, and the western part of
Negros.

Culture and Festivals

 Ati-Atihan Festival (Aklan): Held every January in Kalibo, it is considered the "Mother
of All Philippine Festivals."
 Dinagyang Festival (Iloilo): Celebrated in honor of the Santo Niño (Holy Child Jesus) in
January.
 MassKara Festival (Bacolod City): Known for its colorful masks and street dancing,
held every October.

Economy

 Agriculture: The region is known for its agricultural products, particularly sugarcane
(Negros Occidental), rice (Iloilo), and mangoes (Guimaras).
 Fishing: Capiz is known as the "Seafood Capital of the Philippines."
 Tourism: Boracay Island is a major tourist destination, renowned for its white sandy
beaches.
