BLACK TIGER PRAWN CULTURE

Procedure
1. Provide bigger reservoir; containing fish, bivalves and seaweeds as biofilters
2. Prepare the ponds.
a. Drain totally
b. Level pond bottom
c. Make peripheral and central canals
d. Crack-dry
e. Remove black sludge from previous cropping
f. Flush the pond with water and drain
g. Apply agricultural line (2 tons/ha) or hydrated lime (0.5-1 to/ha).
h. Till the pond bottom and compact it
i. Install the central and side sludge collectors
j. Install catwalks and feeding trays in grow-out ponds
k. Let in water and position the aerators and the pumps
l. To kill predators and competitors, apply teased powder at 50 kg/ha
m. Dried chicken or cow manure are applied at 300 kg/ha, together with
urea (45-0-0) at 18 kg/ha bay “tea bag” method

3. In the reservoir
a. (25% of the grow-out farm)
b. stock biomanipulators at 5,000-10,000 fish per ha (tilapia and milkfish.
c. Water will be held atleast 1 week before using in the grow-out ponds

4. In the grow-out ponds:

a. Acclimate stock disease-free shrimp (PL 18)
1. 25 fry/m2- P1.8 million net profit per ha
2. 15 fry/m2- P1.1 million net profit per ha
3. 40 fry/m2- P0.6 million net profit per ha
b. Biomanipulators may be stocked inside walled net (10m x 10m x 1.5m)
that are placed in the middle of grow-out ponds and to the sides of the
ponds. These fish can feed on the sludge deposited at the center

5. During the operation:

a. Feed fish from computed daily feeding rate and frequency
b. Sample stock regularly to adjust feeding demand
c. Monitor water quality and bacterial populations regularly
d. Operate aerators from 6p to 6am

6. In the recirculating system:

a. Effluents from the grow-out pond are reused after passing through the
treatment pond
b. Water is fully circulated by pumping twice
1. From head reservoir to grow-out pond
2. Treatment pond to grow-out pond
7. In treatment ponds:
a. Effluent from grow-out ponds passes through several hurdles
b. Install baffles to serve as mechanical filtration units and to settle
suspended solids
c. Dissolve nutrients can be taken up by biofilters (oyster, Gracilaria, mussel)
d. A filter box fitted with a 2 hp submersible pump is installed at the end of
the pond

8. Harvesting is done 4-5 months by draining the ponds.

a. Shrimp are sorted out and chilled before packing
b. Ideal ABW is 25 g
