PRO-801 Rv2
1.- PURPOSE
This procedure set out the operational sequence and guidelines for the welding repair of
pieces undergoing non-destructive tests and/or in-process.
2.- SCOPE
This procedure is applicable to all types of cast material, except cast iron, especially bodies
and bonnets, regardless of the type of valve design.
Points arising from the inspection are assessed in line with applicable procedures. Areas to
be repaired, if necessary, are marked by the NDT supervisor.
3.2. Scarfing
The defective area of the piece to be repaired is pre-heated to the temperature indicated in
document DOC-801.a, depending on the type of material.

Scarfing is performed by means of special electrodes (ductil iron rod, with rutile coating
and organic binder).
The scarfed areas are observed by D.P. in line with procedure PRO-805 .
Once the defective material has been scarfed, and prior to repair by welding, the welder
contacts the NDT supervisor and between them they assess whether it is major repair,
based on the following criteria:
a) Defect deeper than 20% of wall thickness or 25 mm, whichever is the smaller.
If it is deemed a major repair, the work is not carried out until authorization is received
from the Quality Manager. Procedures to be followed are stipulated in the Quality Plan.
3.4. Welds
Weld repairs are performed in line with procedures and welders qualified as established
in ASME section IX.
Welders only undertake repairs to the level for which they have approval.
Before performing the repair, the welder must complete the welder’s internal control sheet.
The weld is performed according to the welding parameter summary sheet, which each
welder has.
3.6. Inspection
All weld repairs are re-inspected using the same procedures and acceptance criteria that
were used originally.
