B. Performance Standard The learners should be able to prepare beneficial mixtures such as drinks, food, and herbal medicines.
C. Learning Competency The learners should be able to describe the appearance and uses uniform and non-uniform mixtures;
Code: S6MT-Iac-1
II. CONTENT: 1. Mixture and their Characteristics
1.1 Homogenous and Heterogeneous mixtures
III. LEARNING RESOURCES

IV. LEARNING PROCEDURES (Teacher’s Activity) (Pupils’ Activity)
(BEFORE THE LESSON)
A. Reviewing the previous lesson:
Teacher: Good Morning class! Before we start our lesson for today, let’s briefly
review our previous lesson last meeting. Now I have words here in my magic
box. I will let individuals pick one and put it in the proper column.

WORDS:
Gold
Steel
Ramen
Baking Soda
Ice cream
Sauce
Copper
Juice
Sulfur
Soap
Water
Bread
Hydrogen
Iron
Oxygen
Co2
Paint Silver
Salt Cake

Non-Mixture Mixture
Mixture - Sauce, paint, bread, ramen, juice, cake, ice cream, and soap Non-
mixture - Gold, water, oxygen, steel, copper, CO2, salt, hydrogen, silver, baking
soda, sulfur, iron.
Teacher: Good Job! Thank you everyone! Can you define what a mixture is? Student 3: A
physical combination
of two or more
substances that
aren't chemically
joined.

Teacher: Good Job! Now, let us proceed to our new topic for today. Are you
ready?
Students: Yes
Ma’am!

-
B. Motivation: Mechanics: The teacher will be showing a short video clip about homogenous
and heterogenous. Afterward, they will have an activity to check if they have
learned something.

Instruction: Everyone will be watching a short clip, afterwards you will be

having an activity.

Teacher: For this activity, I will randomly choose one of your classmates to give
a number the counting will start in front. If the number ends with you then
you’ll have to choose one of my cards and identify if its homogeneous or
Heterogeneous

Identification: Identify the following mixture. Homogeneous or Heterogeneous.

1.__ a salad
2.____Brass
3____ Halo-halo
4._____ Peanut Butter
5._____Sea water
6._____Cloud
7.____ Milk Shake
8._____Perfume
9. _____Mayonnaise
10.____ Sandwich
C. Presenting the new lesson: Mechanics: The teacher will be showing a group of pictures in front of mixtures,
and the teacher will discuss how these pictures are mixtures. After showing it to
them and letting them analyze each picture shown in front, they will be giving
an example of mixtures they know.

Instructions: Everyone I will be showing you a group of pictures in front. These

pictures are examples of mixtures. After analyzing and understanding the
pictures in front each one of you will be giving 1 example of a mixture.

Teacher: Here are the pictures in front, can you name each one of them? We
have?

Students:
sandwiches, salad,
cereal, and cookies.
Teacher: Now, are these examples of mixtures?
Student 1: Yes
Teacher: Very Good! These 5 examples are called heterogenous, these are ma’am!
mixtures made of two or more substances that are combined (mixed) together
but not dissolved together. For example, in the salad, we combine salt, pepper,
lettuce, tomatoes, and chicken. We mixed them all but all the ingredients were Students: Yes
not dissolved. Do we all understand? ma’am!

Teacher: Can anyone give an example of heterogeneous? Yes?

Student 5: Pizza!
Teacher: Very Good! Anyone else?
Student 2: Salt and
pepper ma’am.
Teacher: Good Job! All right, now I’ll be showing you examples of Homogeneous
is a mixture that has been mixed so well that the different parts will not settle
out on their own.
Teacher: What can you see in this group of pictures?

Students: Vinegar,
Teacher: Awesome everyone! Now I hope you all understand the meaning and wine, juice, and air.
examples of homogeneous and heterogenous.

(DURING THE LESSON)

D. Discussing new concepts and Mechanics: The teacher will group the students into 5 groups. The students will
practicing new skills #1: be creating 1 example each of homogeneous and heterogeneous. They will be
creating a craft of each example using recycled materials

Instruction: I will be grouping you into 5 groups. Each group will be picking 1
example of heterogenous and homogenous then you will be creating a craft
using recycled materials to make your chosen example of each mixture.
Examples:

1.

E. Discussing new concepts and

practicing new skills #2: Mechanics: The teacher will be giving an activity to the students. The students
will be grouped into 2 and race to arrange the scrambled words in front. After
arranging the words, they will identify if the scrambled words are examples of
heterogeneous or homogenous mixtures.

Instructions: In front are scrambled words you have to fix. You will be grouped
into 2 and race to arrange the scrambled words. After arranging the words, use
the words to identify if the words are homogenous or heterogenous.

F. Developing Mastery:
Mechanics: The teacher will be giving an activity which will be a Venn
diagram. The Venn diagram is a French fries diagram. The student will put
their answers in a strip of French fry and put it on its proper diagram.

Instructions:
I have strips of paper here which will represent French fries. Now, in front is
where the French fries holder. Now, the French fries holders are labeled as
homogeneous and heterogeneous. You will be writing your definition in that
strip of paper. And put it inside the holder. I will be picking names here in my
jar for those who will be answering.

G. Application:

Mechanics: The students will create a heterogenous mixture and a

homogenous mixture. For heterogenous they will be creating a mixture of
oil and water, while for homogeneous they will be creating a mixture of
powdered juice and water. For this activity, the students will do this in
pairs.
Materials: each pair will bring:
 2 Bottled waters
 Plastic cup
 Half a cup of oil (measure it using the plastic cup)
 Powdered juice

Instructions: The activity that we will be doing today is by pairs, each pair
will bring 2 bottled water, powdered juice, half a cup of oil, and 2 plastic
cups. To measure the oil that you will be bringing base it on your plastic
cups. We will be doing a mixture of heterogenous and homogeneous. After
doing the activity you will be answering a questionnaire.
Assessment Questions:

1) Which of the two are homogenous and heterogenous?

2) Why are mixtures important in your daily life?

3) What have learned from working in pairs?

(After the Lesson)

H. Generalization
1. What is mixture? Student 6: A
substance made by
mixing other
substances.

Student 7:
2. What are the two main types of mixtures? Heterogeneous
Mixture and
homogenous
mixture.

3. Decribe what a Homogeneous mixture and Heterogenous mixture. Student 8: A

homogeneous
mixture is one in
which different parts
(such as salt and
water) have been
uniformly combined
into a new substance
(salt water), while a
heterogeneous
mixture has parts
that remain
separate.
I. Evaluation: Mechanics: The teacher will be giving an activity sheet to assess their

Mechanics: The students will draw 1 example each in a heterogeneous and
homogeneous mixture. They will do this on a ¼ illustration board.
Instructions: In a ¼ illustration board you will draw 1 example of heterogenous
and homogenous. Occupy the space and be creative using crayons and other
drawing materials. On a ¼ crosswise paper, write your explanation on what you
draw on your illustration board and explain why it is a homogeneous and
heterogenous mixture.
