Learning Area: SCIENCE

Quarter: __1___
Week: 6
Grade Level: VI
Duration: 50 mins

I. OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standards The learners demonstrates understanding of different types of mixtures and
their characteristics.
B. Performance Standards
The learners demonstrate an understanding in preparing of different
mixtures concentrations according to uses and availability of materials.
C. Learning Competencies
/ Describe the appearance and uses of homogeneous and heterogeneous
Objectives mixtures.
Write LC code for each CODE: S6MT-Ia-c-1
At the end of the session, the learners are expected to:
1. Identify homogeneous and heterogeneous mixture
2. Differentiate homogeneous from heterogeneous mixture in the group
activity
3. Perform experiments by using the equipment of laboratory apparatus.

IV. PROCEDURES

ELECIT /ENGAGE
Activity Instruction:
A. Presenting the 1. The teacher shows pictures of a “halo-halo”
new lesson

B. Establishing the
purpose for the lesson

C. Presenting examples/
instances lesson
The teacher asks the following questions to the class:
1. What can you say about the picture?
2. Have you eaten or drank halo-halo?
3. Why it is called halo-halo?
*do you want to know more about mixture?
EXPLORE
D. Discussing new Activity Instructions:
concepts and
practicing new skills a. The teacher let the learners to do an activity entitled “Mix Me”
#1 by using the laboratory apparatus.
b. The teacher presents the rubrics and safety measures to the
class.
c. The teacher presents the rubrics to the class before the activity.
E. Discussing new
concepts and

practicing new Very good Good Needs
skills. ACTIVITY Improvement
#2
The task is well organized and well
presented.
The group have made collaboration
to finish and present the task
The output presented is clear and
neat.

d. The teacher will present safety measures in doing the activity.

Safety Measures in Doing the Activity

1. Always listen to the instructions.

2. Do not put anything in to your mouth.
3. Be careful in handling sharp objects
4. Always wear safety equipment needed in the activity.
5. Never take anything from the science laboratory
without permission
6. Always wash your hand after doing the activity.

e. The teacher let the learners to answer the guided questions.

f. See attached activity sheets “Mix Me”

F. Developing Mastery
EXPLAIN
(Leads to Formative
Assessment)
Activity Instructions:

a. The teacher will group them in to two then they will present their
output to the class.
b. The Guided question will be answered
c. Guided Questions:
 What are the substances given to you?
 What did you do with the substances?
 After mixing, what have you observed?
 Can you identify the substances being mixed?
 What type of mixture you have in your group?
 Why did you say it is homogenous/heterogeneous?
 Can you differentiate homogeneous from heterogeneous
mixture?

ELABORATE
G. Finding practical A. The teacher will elaborate the key concept of the activity by
applications of answering the guide questions with the learners output.
concept & skills B. Then the teacher will conclude the background information
daily living about the topic.

Mixture is a combination of two or more substances and it is of two

types:
Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Mixture.

Homogeneous Mixture - a mixture in which the composition is uniform

throughout the mixture.
(using the example of the previous activity)

Heterogeneous Mixture- a mixture in which the composition is not uniform

throughout the mixture.
(using the example of the previous activity)

H. Making
generalization and C. The teacher will now ask the learners about the importance of
abstractions about mixture in our daily lives.
the lesson

EVALUATE
I. Evaluate Learning Direction: Identify the following whether it is homogenous or
heterogeneous mixture.
1. Fruit salad
2. Milk
3. Pizza
Direction: Differentiate the following:

HOMEGENEOUS HETEROGENEOUS

lesson
E. Which of my teaching
strategies worked well? Why
did these work?

“Mix Me”
Activity Title

GROUP NAME:

Science Skills: Experimenting, Observing, Describing and Analyzing

NOTE: The Activity Needs Teacher’s Supervision.
Time Frame: 4-6 mins

Objectives:
1. Describe and explain the types of mixture base on the activity.

What you need:

(2) 100 ml Beaker Spatula Water
(1) 10 ml graduated cylinder Salt Measuring Balance
(1) 100 ml graduated cylinder oil (1) Stirring rod

Procedure: Make a table for the activity

1. Label the 2 beakers A and B.
2. Using the measuring balance, weigh 8 grams of table salt and put it on the beaker
A. on the other hand, measure 8 ml of cooking oil using the graduated cylinder
and pour it on the beaker B.
3. Measure 70 ml of water using the graduated cylinder and poor it on the two
beakers.
4. Using the stirring rod, stir the substances in beaker A and B. Stir it well and
observe if there will be any changes happen.
5. Identify if it is homogeneous or heterogeneous mixture, then answer the guided
questions.

Guided questions:
GROUP 1
 What are the substances given to you?

 What did you do with the substances?

 After mixing, what have you observed?

 Can you identify the substances being mixed?

GROUP 2

 What type of mixture you have in your group?

 Why did you say it is homogenous/heterogeneous?

 Can you differentiate homogeneous from heterogeneous mixture?
