Activity Title : Let’s Solve This!
Learning Target : Solves routine problems involving squares, rectangles, and
triangles,
Reference(s) : MELC, Our World of Math 4
LAS Writer : Frances Elaine S. Lebios

Let us study
Marc and Shane are classmates in Grade 4. Their teacher asks them to
bring different shapes of cardboard with a corresponding measurement of its
area. For the square, rectangle, and triangle the area must be 16 cm2, 20 cm2
and 48 cm2 respectively. Let us check if they brought the right materials for
their teacher.

These are the measurements of the cardboards brought by Marc and Shane.
4 cm 5 cm

4 cm 4 cm 4 cm
4 cm
8 cm

4 cm 5 cm 12 cm
To solve for its area:

Area of a square Area of a rectangle Area of a triangle

A= sxs A= lxw A= 1/2 (b x h )

A = 4 cm x 4 cm A = 5 cm x 4 cm A= 1/2 ( 12 cm x 8 cm )
A = 16 cm2 A = 20 cm2 A= 1/2 ( 96 cm2 )
A= 48 cm2
So, Marc and Shane got the right materials for their teacher

Activity: Read and solve the problem carefully.
