Rules and Regulations
Rule: The tournament is open only to School children and will be played under the latest FIDE rules.
Rate of Play: 90 minutes each, plus 30 seconds increment per move from move one.
AICF player Registration: AICF Player registration is compulsory for all players. AICF Player Registration fee
is Rs300/- for the year 2024-2025 As per latest AICF regulations all AICF registrations will be accepted only
through online. Players/Arbiters registration should be done well before the start of the Tournament. For
renewing AICF Registration of existing players please click http://aicf.in/players/.

For fresh AICF registration, players are requested to keep their scanned passport size photograph and birth
certificate and a valid email address (unique) not used by any other person/player for AICF, ready before the
registration process. Note: Only passport size (less than 1MB) photograph in jpeg format should be uploaded
TNSCA Player Registration: TNSCA player registration is compulsory for all Tamil Nadu players. TNSCA
Player Registration fee is Rs.150/- for the year 2024-2025. Players / Arbiters registration should be done well
before the start of event (Tournament). New entrants to the field of chess are informed that TNSCA player’s
registration is mandatory and it should be done well before participating in any tournament. For renewing
TNSCA player registration of existing players, please click https://registration.tamilchess.com/. For fresh
TNSCA registration please click https://registration.tamilchess.com/new-register/ For fresh TNSCA
registration, players are requested to keep their scanned passport size photograph and birth certificate and a

CGDCA Player Registration: Chengalpattu DCA Registration fee is Rs.75/- for the year 2024 – 2025
(for Chengalpattu district players only)

Tie-break: Latest AICF tie-break rules will be applied. In case of tie Prize money will not be shared
Protests: Protests, if any, against the decision of the Chief Arbiter shall be made in writing with a protest fee of
Rs. 1000/- within 15 minutes of the occurrence of the incident to the appeals committee. The protest fee will be
refunded if the appeal is upheld.

Appeals Committee: An Appeals Committee comprising of five members will be formed at the players
meeting. The decision of the appeals committee is final and binding on all players concerned.

Withdrawals: A player may withdraw at any stage of the event, after informing the Chief Arbiter in writing.

Boarding & Lodging: Players responsibility

Entry fee to be paid by a crossed bank draft or cheque in favour of “Modern Senior Secondary
School” payable at Chennai and sent on or before 11th August 2024 to

A short profile

Started as a Kindergarten school in the year 1968 in Nanganallur, a suburb on the southern
periphery of Madras with 20 students and 4 teachers, Modern Senior Secondary School has
blossomed into a senior secondary school with classes from LKG to Standard XII. It was
affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi in the year 1977. The first
batch of students appeared for Standard X Board Examination in 1980 and then in 1982 for
Standard XII Board Examination. All these years, the School has been blessed with cent
percent passes.

The School has a student strength of about 2600 students at the commencement of the
current year 2024-25 and a staff strength of about 110 comprising 1 Ph.D and 12 M.Phil’s
besides a number of Post Graduate, Trained Graduate, Primary Grade and Kindergarten
teachers with support staff.

The School is showing great importance to Co-curricular and extracurricular activities. In


particular, the School is giving special coaching in chess to the students, which has paid
rich dividends. The School is very proud of one of its alumni, K.Sasikiran, Grand
Master and Arjuna Awardee in Chess. Following his footsteps, the School has a host of
eminent chess players.

The Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi has allotted to the School, the
Southern Zonal Chess Tournaments in 2004 and 2006 under its Competitive Sports
Programme. All India CBSE Chess Championship finals was conducted in the School in
2007.

With this background, the School has been conducting

Modern Senior Secondary School International Rating Chess Tournament every year,
starting from the year 2008.This is the first ever International Rating Chess Championship
at the School level.
