REPORT

DELHI TRANSCO LIMITED

There are three types of grid.
1. Generation grid – where electricity
is generated/produced and further
transfer to transmission grid.
2. Transmission grid – where
electricity is transfer to distribution
grid.
3. Distribution grid – where
electricity is distributed to
areas ,industries, our house.
Who have license for
transmitting electricity?
Central Transmission Utility(CTU):
 Power Grid Corporation of India
Limited(PGCIL)
State Transmission Utilities(STUs):
 Delhi Transco Limited(DTL)
Distribution Companies(Discoms):
 BSES Yamuna Power Limited(BYPL)
 Tata Power Delhi Distribution
Limited (TPDDL)
Points to know about
Substation in Patparganj.
We take electricity from generation
unit and give it to distribution unit
by stepping it down.
Here, we convert 220kv and 400kv
to 33kv and 66kv.
The electricity which is generated
by generation unit is of 11kv which
is later stepped up and transfer to
transmission grid. Here, again
electricity is stepped up and then
stepped down to further transfer to
distribution grid.
This substation is transmission grid.
Equipment in Substations
1. Power Transformers
2. Current Transformers(CT)
3. Potential Transformers(PT)
4. Circuit Breaker
5. Isolator
6. Lighting Resistor
7. Overhead Conductors
8. Underground Cables
9. Protection Devices
1. Power Transformers
It is a constant device that is used to
transfer electric energy from one
alternating current circuits to one or more
other circuits either by stepping up (high)
or stepping down (low) voltage.
2. Current Transformers
A Current Transformer (CT) are designed
to produce an alternating current in its
secondary winding that is proportional to
the current that it is measuring in its
primary. It convert high unmeasurable
current to low current to measure. It is
measuring device as well as protection
device.
3. Potential Transformers
A potential transformer, also called a PT,
is an instrument transformer used in
power systems for voltage
transformation. It converts higher voltage
values to lower voltage values for
measurement and protection purposes.
4. Circuit Breaker
Circuit breaker is a type of high-voltage
electrical switchgear device. It is used for
protecting electrical power systems in
normal and abnormal conditions. These
circuit breakers are commonly employed in
medium to high-voltage power transmission
and distribution systems. It is connected in
parallel.
5. Isolator
Isolator is a manually operated
mechanical switch operated in no load
condition that isolates the faulty section
of substation. It is used to separate faulty
section for repair from a healthy section
in order to avoid the occurrence of severe
faults.
6. Lightning Arrestor
A Lightning Arrester, Surge arrester or
Line arrester is a device used on
electrical power systems and
telecommunications systems to protect
the insulation and conductors of the
system from the damaging effects of
lightning. It is connected in parallel.
Made up of semi-conductor materials
like zinc oxide ZnO. There is two LA for
extra safety one before grid and other
before transformers(both sides).
7. Relay
An over-voltage relay is commonly used
to protect the inverters and transformers
on a utility scale solar PV system. When
the relay detects a spike in the voltage, it
trips out the system, isolating it from the
harmful effects of the high voltage
present on the grid.
AMR – Automatic Meter Relay mostly
used nowadays attached with modem
which consist sim for transferring
reading to BSES.
