termination up to 3x60A. Order two per shelf. This Power Input Card includes two 3-prong busbars for
use in bridging a 60A/80A/100A input feed/return across all three feed/return terminals.
Note 14: For deployment of this Power Input Card, the power cable is run directly from the distribution
panel to the Power Input Card (that is, BIP is not required). The power cable is ordered by the meter.
Note 15: This circuit pack is supported in NTK603AAE5 variant of 32-slot shelf type. This circuit pack
cannot be used in a NTK603AB variant of 32-slot shelf type.
Note 16: The recommended replacement code for NTK605CAE5 is NTK605FA.
Note 17: The NTK605EAE5 kit includes the Fused Power Input Card (which includes the fuse holder
and alarm indicator fuse), three of each main fuse at 60A, and one label for each of the main fuses. This
Power Input Card also includes two 3-prong busbars for use in bridging a 60A/80A/100A input feed/
return across all three feed/return terminals. This Fused Power Input Card can be also equipped with
30A, 40A or 50A main fuses. Main or replacement fuses can be ordered separately. Although Ciena
does not supply 30A, 40A or 50A fuses, they are supported for use with this Fused Power Input Card.
Order two Power Input Cards per shelf.
Note 18: The 3x60A Power Input Card (fused) (NTK605EAE5) can be used as an alternative to the
3x60A Power Input Card (breakered) (NTK605CAE5) in a NTK603AAE5 variant of 32-slot shelf except
that a fuse is used instead of a circuit breaker to limit the current. Since the 3x60A Power Input Card
(fused) (NTK605EAE5) supports a variety of fuse ratings from 30A to 60A, it offers flexibility in managing
feeder sizes and secondary disconnect ratings.
Note 19: Fuseholder pull tool (N0207221) is used to assist in removing the fuse cartridge from the
Fused Power Input Card NTK505QE, NTK605FE, NTK605GE, NTK605EAE5, NTK505EC,
NTK505EAE5, or NTK505EEE5. When not in use, this tool can be stored in a pocket built into the shelf
front cover (applies to shelf front cover NTK509CCE6 for the 14-slot shelf type and shelf front cover
NTK609CAE5 for the 32-slot shelf type). The fuse holder pull tool is optional.
Note 20: The recommended replacement code for NTK605EAE5 is NTK605FE.
Note 21: With Fused Power Input Cards (NTK605FE, NTK605GE, NTK505EC, NTK505EAE5,
NTK605EAE5 and NTK505EEE5), you must select the appropriate main fuse size for the given
application, apply the matching labels and ensure that the Provisioned Shelf Current parameter in the
System sub-tab of the Node Information panel is set to a value that is not greater than the lesser of the
fuse rating or the feeder rating (breaker/fuse rating at the BIP, main panel or BDFB). Refer to
Administration and Security, 323-1851-301. The use of the alarm indicator fuse provided with Fused
Power Input Card is optional and its use requires careful consideration. The fuse cartridge connects the
main fuse and alarm indicator fuse in parallel. If the main fuse is missing or already blown on installation,
the electrical path through the parallel alarm indicator fuse may provide sufficient current to activate the
Power OK LED on the card but insufficient current to blow the alarm fuse. Neither a “Power Failure” nor
a “Power Failure - Fuse Blown” alarm would be asserted giving the impression of power redundancy.
Alarm indicator fuses are intended for use where required by the installation practice, otherwise, the
indicator fuse position must be covered with the label matching the main fuse rating (provided with the
Power Input Card). If the alarm indicator fuse is used, the label matching the rating of the main fuse must
be applied to the fixed portion of Power Input Card at commissioning.
Note 22: This power input card is supported in 6500-7 packet-optical shelf type.

Note 24: Used on 14-slot optical (NTK503AA/NTK503AB), optical/front electrical (NTK503BA), and
optical/rear electrical shelves (NTK503CA) (not supported in packet-optical shelf; NTK503SA and
converged shelf variants; NTK503ADE5/NTK503BDE5/NTK503CDE5). RoHS compliant versions of the
shelf (PEC ending with E5) support this filter by the use of an adapter tray (N0096656) shipped with
RoHS compliant versions of the shelf. Order this filter for sparing purposes only. You must use the RoHS
compliant version (NTK509EAE5).
Note 25: Used on all 14-slot converged shelf types optical (NTK503ADE5), optical/front
(NTK503BDE5), optical/rear electrical (NTK503CDE5)], on metro front electrical shelf (NTK503GA) and
optical/rear electrical shelf (NTK503CCE5), Order for sparing purposes only. Can also be used as an
alternative to the NKT509EAE6 in the RoHS-compliant versions of optical, optical/front electrical, and
optical/rear electrical shelves (PEC ending with E5 as indicated in Note 24) by discarding the air filter
tray (N0096656) shipped with those shelves and installing the filter into the shelf directly. You must use
NTK509EEE5.
Note 26: In controlled environments that are below the airborne contaminant levels listed in Telcordia
GR-63-CORE (NEBS) and maintain an ambient temperature of 30°C or less, it is recommend that you
inspect the air filter after 12 months of use and that you replace it if it has accumulated a layer of dust.
You must discard and replace the air filter after 18 to 24 months of use. In operating environments with
higher ambient temperatures, with an unknown concentration of airborne contaminants or when the
concentration is known to be in excess of Telcordia GR-63-CORE (NEBS) levels, you must replace the
air filter every six months.

40G MSPP circuit packs
Description Order code Notes
XC I/F 40G STS-1/HO circuit pack NTK525FAE5 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
Note 1: The 40G MSPP interface circuit packs are supported in 14-slot and 32-slot shelf types. The
40G MSPP interface circuit packs are not supported in 2-slot or 7-slot shelf type. Also in this release,
the 40G MSPP interface circuit packs are not supported in 6500-7 packet-optical shelf type.
Note 2: The XC I/F 40G STS-1/HO circuit pack allows STS-1 grooming capabilities between 6500
MSPP interfaces and 6500 40G OCLD, Wavelength-Selective 40G OCLD, or 40G UOCLD circuit packs
by using the shelf cross-connect circuit pack. It provides 40G line integration within 6500 MSPP
applications, 40G interfacing with the existing cross-connect architecture, and leveraging of the existing
STS traffic routing and protection capabilities of the cross-connect for 40G circuit packs.
Note 3: High flow cooling fan modules (NTK507LS, NTK507MS, NTK507LDE5, or NTK507MDE5) are
required when this circuit pack is equipped in a 14-slot shelf. This circuit pack cannot be used with
regular flow cooling fan modules.
Note 4: Use XC I/F 40G STS-1/HO circuit pack in 32-slot packet-optical shelf (NTK603AAE5 and
NTK603AB), 14-slot packet-optical shelf (NTK503ADE5), 14-slot converged optical shelf
(NTK503ADE5), 14-slot converged optical/front electrical shelf (NTK503BDE5), or 14-slot converged
optical/rear electrical shelf (NTK503CDE5). This circuit pack cannot be used in any other shelf types.
Note 5: When mated with a 40G OCLD or Wavelength-Selective 40G OCLD circuit pack in a 14-slot
shelf type, the 40G XCIF is only supported when using with STS-1/VC-3 (160/0), 240G+ STS-1/VC-3
(240/0), or 240G+/80G VT1.5/VC-12 (240/80) cross-connect circuit packs. Also, if the 14-slot shelf is
equipped with X-Conn 160G+ STS-1/VC-3 (160/0) circuit packs (NTK557BA), the 40G XCIF circuit
pack can be only equipped in slots 6 and 10. When mated with a 40G UOCLD circuit pack in a 14-slot
shelf type, the 40G XCIF is only supported when using with 240G+ STS-1/VC-3 (240/0) or 240G+/80G
VT1.5/VC-12 (240/80) cross-connect circuit packs.
Note 6: The XC I/F 40G STS-1/HO circuit pack needs to be paired and in an adjacent slot with a 40G
OCLD, Wavelength-Selective 40G OCLD, or 40G UOCLD circuit pack. Two 40G XCIF circuit packs and
two 40G OCLD or Wavelength-Selective 40G OCLD circuit packs (two pairs of 40G XCIF/40G OCLD
or 40G XCIF/Wavelength-Selective 40G OCLD) along with two cross-connect circuit packs provide
1+1/MSP linear and 2-Fiber BLSR/MS-SPRing protection (40G TR protected group). Signals are
exchanged between the six slots using the backplane. For 1+1/MSP linear or 2-Fiber BLSR/MS-
SPRing protection, the valid protection group slots for 40G XCIF and 40G OCLD or Wavelength-
Selective 40G OCLD are: {1,2,3,4}, {5,6,9,10}, and {11,12,13,14} for 14-slot shelf types and {1,2,3,4},
{5,6,7,8}, {11,12,13,14}, {15,16,17,18}, {21,22,23,24}, {25,26,27,28}, {31,32,33,34}, and {35,36,37,38}
for 32-slot shelf type. The 40G OCLD or Wavelength-Selective 40G OCLD circuit packs are equipped
in odd slots. The 40G XCIF circuit packs are equipped in even slots. The combination of 40G XCIF and
40G UOCLD circuit packs can only form unprotected group (40G UOCLD/40G XCIF protected groups
are not supported in this release) and the 40G XCIF circuit packs must be equipped in slots 1, 4, 9, or
14 in 14-slot shelf and in slots 1, 6, 13, 18, 21, 26, 33, or 38 in 32-slot shelf.
Note 7: The maximum number of 40G XCIF circuit packs per 14-slot shelf is six when the 40G XCIF
circuit packs are mated with 40G OCLD or Wavelength-Selective 40G OCLD circuit packs. The
maximum number of 40G XCIF circuit packs per 14-slot shelf is four when the 40G XCIF circuit packs
are mated with 40G UOCLD circuit packs.
Note 8: The maximum number of 40G XCIF circuit packs per 32-slot shelf is 16 when the 40G XCIF
circuit packs are mated with 40G OCLD or Wavelength-Selective 40G OCLD circuit packs. The
maximum number of 40G XCIF circuit packs per 32-slot shelf is eight when the 40G XCIF circuit packs
are mated with 40G UOCLD circuit packs.

40G circuit packs
to start using 60A Power Input Cards and 60A feeders, refer to "Power
specifications” section in Part 3 of 6500 Planning, NTRN10FG (Technical
specifications).
• A 40G OCLD circuit pack needs to be paired and in an adjacent slot with
another 40G OCLD circuit pack (regenerator application), a 40G UOCLD
circuit pack (regenerator application), a Wavelength-Selective 40G OCLD
circuit pack (regenerator application), a 40G OCI, 40G+ CFP OCI, or 40/
43G OCI circuit pack (optical transponder), or a 40G MUX OCI circuit pack
(optical muxponder). A 40G OCI, 40G+ CFP OCI, or 40/43G OCI circuit
pack between two 40G UOCLD, Wavelength-Selective 40G OCLD, or 40G
OCLD circuit packs or a 40G MUX OCI circuit pack between two 40G
UOCLD, Wavelength-Selective 40G OCLD, or 40G OCLD circuit packs
provides 1+1 OTN line-side protection. Signals are exchanged between
triplets using the backplane. For 1+1 protected triplets, the only choices
are slots {1,2,3} and {4,5,6} for 6500-7 packet-optical shelf type, slots
{1,2,3}, {4,5,6}, {9,10,11}, and {12,13,14} for 14-slot shelf types, slots
{1,2,3}, {4,5,6}, {13,14,15}, {16,17,18}, {21,22,23}, {24,25,26}, {33,34,35},
and {36,37,38} for 32-slot shelf type, and slots {1,2,3} and {4,5,6} for 7-slot
shelf type.
• Contact your Ciena representative to discuss the details of replacement
options.
40G UOCLD circuit packs (NTK539XAE5 and NTK539XEE5)
• This circuit pack is used to implement the mapping/wrapping functionality
to a G.709 DWDM line. This circuit pack includes a single 40G tunable
OTM3 line interface when 40G UOCLD is in Broadband mode and PTP
line interface when in Packet-Optical Transport System (P-OTS).
• High flow cooling fan modules (NTK507LS, NTK507MS, NTK507LDE5, or
NTK507MDE5) are required when this circuit pack is equipped in a 14-slot
shelf. This circuit pack cannot be used with regular flow cooling fan
modules.
• The combination of a 40G UOCLD circuit pack (NTK539XAE5 or
NTK539XEE5) and a 40G OTN XCIF circuit pack (NTK620AA) provides
OTN mapping (OTU3 to ODU2, ODU1, or ODU0).
• For this circuit pack, only the SP-2 shelf processor (NTK555CAE5,
NTK555EAE5, or NTK555FAE5) is required in a 14-slot shelf or an SPAP-
2 w/2xOSC (NTK555NA) in the case of a 7-slot optical Type 2 shelf
(NTK503KA), otherwise the equipment does not provision.
• The two 40G MUX OCI variants (NTK525CAE5 and NTK525CFE5) offer
the same functionality with NTK525CFE5 also offering the following extra
features comparing to NTK525CAE5 variant:
— consuming less power
— supporting FC800/FC1200 client facility
— supporting DWDM tunable XFPs
— supporting TPT client side protection
• High flow cooling fan modules (NTK507LS, NTK507MS, NTK507LDE5, or
NTK507MDE5) are required when 4x10G MUX circuit packs are equipped
in a 14-slot shelf. The 4x10G MUX circuit packs cannot be used with
regular flow cooling fan modules.
• These circuit packs support compliancy to G.7041 Sub-clause 7.9.2.2,
which provides a mapping mode that preserves the Ordered Set
information of the 10GBase-R client signal by mapping Ordered Sets into
their own GFP-F frames (Client Data Frame). Consequently, this mapping
mode does not require the GFP Client Management Frames (CMF) to
communicate local faults, remote faults, all clears, and other PCS layer
ordered set information. Therefore, this feature allows 6500 systems to
better interop with other vendors’ products when using 10GE GFP
mapping.
• Use these circuit packs in 2-slot optical Type 2 shelf (NTK503LA) (only
NTK525CFE5 variant), 6500-7 packet-optical shelf (NTK503RA), 7-slot
optical shelf (NTK503PAE5 and NTK503KA), 32-slot packet-optical shelf
(NTK603AAE5 and NTK603AB), 14-slot packet-optical shelf
(NTK503SA), 14-slot converged optical shelf (NTK503ADE5), 14-slot
converged optical/front electrical shelf (NTK503BDE5), or 14-slot
converged optical/rear electrical shelf (NTK503CDE5). These circuit
packs cannot be used in any other shelf types.
• 60A Power Input Cards (NTK505CAE5, NTK505DAE5, or NTK505EAE5
equipped with 60A fuse) or 40A Power Input Cards (NTK505CE,
NTK505DE, or NTK505EEE5 equipped with 40A fuse) can be used with
this circuit pack. However, if using 40A feeds into the Power Input Cards,
you cannot equip the 14-slot shelf with more than certain number of 40G
MUX OCI/40G OCLD or 40G MUX OCI/Wavelength-Selective 40G OCLD
circuit packs. To calculate the number of 40G circuit packs where you need
to start using 60A Power Input Cards and 60A feeders, refer to "Power
specifications" section in Part 3 of 6500 Planning, NTRN10FG (Technical
specifications).
• This circuit pack needs to be paired and in an adjacent slot with a 40G
OCLD, Wavelength-Selective 40G OCLD, or 40G UOCLD circuit pack
(optical muxponder). A 40G MUX OCI circuit pack between two 40G
OCLD, Wavelength-Selective 40G OCLD, or 40G UOCLD circuit packs
provides 1+1 OTN line-side protection. Signals are exchanged between
triplets using the backplane. For 1+1 protected triplets, the only choices
are slots {1,2,3} and {4,5,6} for 6500-7 packet-optical shelf type, slots
{1,2,3}, {4,5,6}, {9,10,11}, and {12,13,14} for 14-slot shelf types, slots
{1,2,3}, {4,5,6}, {13,14,15}, {16,17,18}, {21,22,23}, {24,25,26}, {33,34,35},
{36,37,38} for 32-slot shelf type, and slots {1,2,3} and {4,5,6} for 7-slot
shelf type.

• NTZF15xx kit includes one shelf processor w/access panel (SPAP-2) w/2xOSC
2xSFP, NTK555NB, and one 6500 and CPL software load (NTK561xx).
Compared to the NTK555NA, the NTK555NB variant provides the same
functionality with the addition of an EIA/TIA-561 compatible RS-232 Console
RJ45 interface. With the NTK555NB variant equipped in a 2/7-slot Type 2 shelf,
the Console port provides functionality similar to the DTE port found on the 14/32-
slot access panel. Order only one shelf processor per 2-slot or 7-slot shelf since
the shelf processor protection is not supported in a 2-slot or 7-slot shelf. This kit
is only used in 2-slot optical Type 2 shelf assembly (NTK503LA) or 7-slot optical
Type 2 shelf assembly (NTK503KA) (not used in NTK503PAE5 variant of 7-slot,
14-slot, or 32-slot 6500 shelf type). The NTK555NB shelf processor can be used
in an extended temperature environment. For more information on extended
