Characters
Halia Thorn
Description:
She is a sharp looking lady, her face contorts in a smirk, she has a calm demeanour.
Relationships/Story:
The Wester family took over what was supposed to be her town, the Town initially awarded to the
Thorn family was taken over the stronger Wester family from Neverwinter.
(If they win her Trust): Her spies have notified her, the real reason why Glass-staff is murdering
everyone in order to continue is necromantic spell which will raise the dead at night. We have to
stop him till it is activated.
She wants it back, at any cost and will try and recruit the party to join her:
- Tell Elder Sol that some wood elves have been captured by the black spider mercenaries
- Garner his support in helping us capture the central town
- Gain a golem core, for the captured golem and help of the wood elves magus to activate the
golem (Can also be done by Elron’s inventing ability, gains ability to create golems)
- “You see I know of you, and your names, my spies have spent some time following you and
understanding your movements, capabilities and skills, I am need of trusted adventurers like
yourself to reclaim this town”
Phandalin General:
The rutted track emerges from a wooded hillside, and you catch your first glimpse of
Phandalin. The town consists of thirty to forty simple log buildings, some are built from an old
fieldstone foundations. More old ruins - crumbling stone walls covered In ivy and briars -
surrounded the newer house and shops to show ancient history of these lands. This was a
much larger town in centuries past, most of the newer buildings are set on the sides of the cart
track, which widens into a muddy main street of sorts as it climbs towards a ruined manor
house on the hillside at the east side of town. As you approach you see children playing around
in the town green and townsfolk tending to chores or running errands at shops. Many people
look up to you as you approach but are wry and quickly look away and return to their business
as you go by.
Mists of Death
Necromantic spell which is unleashed by glass-staff by toiling three bells at midnight, using an
Arcane artifact left in 100’s of years past by notorious necromancer which used to live in this region.
Sister Giselle in Phandalin is looking for a way to stop these mists permanently through additional
means, there is an artifact which activates the necromantic energy dispersion from the bell, a sort of
amplifier which is located near the great oak at the centre of the town.
Tanna Qin
Woman of strong build and has a shaved sides, with main hair holding a large hammer that is
used to make her weapons
Story/Relationships:
- Tana has fled into Darran’s camp after the Black Spider mercenaries attacked her.
- Her prized sword remains in her store, and it is now out of the casing.
- She is on the player’s good, side and will help with sieging Trescandor Manor.
Stonehill Inn/Tavern
Descriptions:
In the centre of town stands a large, newly built roadhouse of fieldstone and rough-hewn timbers.
The common room is filled with local nursing mugs of ale or cider, all of them eyeing you with
curiosity.
It is currently barricaded from all sides and being protected by adventurers from the black spiders.
Toblin Stonehill
Description:
The proprietor is a short, friendly young human male, he wears common clothing and seems to be
much older. He seems to wearing a chef's cap.
What he says:
- “We have to protect ourselves, against this Black Spiders, there large taxes, and now
unnecessary killing is beyond us, we the townsfolk will rise and fight” (Holding a pot in his
hand)
Rumours:
- “Sister Giselle, from the shrine of Tyr, investigates the mists, you should go check in with her
she might be able to help elevate our plight”
- “Daran Edermath, the orchard keeper, is a former adventurer and the leader of the rebellion
against the Black Spyders, go join the cause”
- “Thel Dender, the previous townmaster was my close friend, his wife and children were taken
to the manor after his murder, you must find and help them”
Hani Pommerman
Description: A middle aged man, rugged with a beard, and longish hair, his eyes show age and
experience and a face of concern
Story/Relationships:
- Barthern was killed by Harbin Wester, when the later planned their attack on the rebel camp
Thistle
Young woman with mage powers, seeking for someone to teach her some magic, asks the
party if they are able to teach her some magic sometime. Willing to pay 50 gold for the
session.
She can learn any sort of magic
Gains + 1 intelligence from training
Can be used in the Seige of Tresender Manor
Anders
Seeking to become a soldier for Neverwinter, a swordsman and practices daily but needs some
help and training and asks the party to help him. Willing to pay 20 Gold for the session.
Can learn certain skills if taught properly
Gains +1 strength from training
Can be used in the siege of Trescandor manor.
"Human warrior of the early 40's which has a worn face which has held much experience in
the battlefield. He is wearing lightly vested plate mail armour, with certain sections of the
body and is quite sturdily built for someone his age".
Sildar is a Stalwart warrior and has thanked the players for helping him, he will refuse to
work with Halia Thornton, since she goes against everything that he holds dear to his ethos.
Quest (Persuaded to help out and join hands with Halia Thornton)
- You can persuade him to help you and is more inclined to follow the players, since they
rescued him and helped him out in battle
Sildar would like to know the Whereabouts of his Wife Slyvia, and Son, Kane if possible, and
attempt to search for them and then kill Klarrg. If his wife's whereabouts are given, he will
assure her and the captors outside and then go search for his son.
Slyvia: "Don’t worry about me, there are others here and I will be okay but find Kane, Sildar,
find Kane"
EDERMATH ORCHARD
Daran Edermath is a retired adventurer who lives in a cottage beside an Apple Orchard
DARAN EDERMATH
Fit, Silver haired half elf well over 100 years old, Daran is a fighter who served as a marshal and
herald for many years in the lands of Dragon Coast, far to the southwest. When retiring he
returned to the Neverwinter region, his original home.
Daran is a member of the Gauntlet, a devout and vigilant group that seeks to protect others
from depredations of evil-doers. Order is always vigilant, ready to smite evil and enforce
justice. He is no longer active in the order but he keeps an eye on all the happenings within
Phandalin.
He can happily trade news to the adventurers which keep upwards to their virtues. Daran is
concerned about the Black Spiders, and would like the group of adventurers to teach them a
lesson.
"It is time that someone took a stand against the black spiders leader Glass-staff"
He knows the black spiders are around the Sleeping Giant Tap house
Can also tell adventurers that the main safe house is underneath the Tresendar Manor, the
fort like establishment to the east edge of town. The Manor is heavily fortified and he will
extend a hand if they can solve something for him.
MISTS OF GHOSTFIRE
DARAN is aware of the circumstances , he talks about Agatha's tragic tale how after the
corruption of her husband she moved away from the manor and lived in a shack within the
town of Phandalin, He doesn't know much about it but from ages past there is a riddle to
find her belongings.
He accesses his spirit, which tells him in cryptic language "The belongings of Agatha, remains
in a place which you can consume but can also consume you, a source of life something that
exists within your veins"
Building is owned by Lion shield, merchant company based in the city of Yatar, over hundred
miles to the east. They ship finished goods to Phandalin and other small settlements within the
region. The output has been hit hard by plundering from the black spiders.
Most recent Lion shield caravan never arrived
LINENE GRAYWING
A woman of thirty five, is sharp tongued and she knows that the black spiders have raided lion
shield caravans but she doesn't know who is responsible.
In the back room Linene has a supply of special armours and weapons for those that are
interesting in purchasing.
She will not sell to anyone she thinks is a threat, she doesn't do business with the black
spiders.
She tells the adventurers that the black spiders are trouble and that to avoid the Sleeping
Giant Tap house to the east.
Recovered Goods
If they return the stolen goods , or if they left the goods and reveal where they can be found.
Linene gives them a reward of 400 Gold, promises to take part in the siege of Tresendor
Manor.
HALIA THRONTON
She is more than a simple merchant, but also an agent of the Zhenatarim, a powerful
organization which seeks to gain secret control of the north through wealth and influence.
She is from House Thronton , one of the 4 noble house of Waterdeep (HISTORY 15 check)
Halia is working to bring Phandalin under her control, can become a valuable patron
She doesn't know the location of Cragmaw Castle, but she knows that the goblin is serving
the black spiders, she suggest the goblin might know the location.
She leverages this information in a trade for gold, and also to incentivise them to deal with
the black spiders.
ALDERLEAF FARM
CARP STORY
Carp, is a spirited and precocious hallfing lad of ten years, Enchanted by the idea of being an
adventurer and says he was playing the in the woods beside Tresender Manor and ran and
saw that there were large furry yellow creatures walking inside Tresender manor. They didn't
see him but it was close. He can show the door and the palisade that he had seen.
SHRINE OF HONOUR
Small shrine made of stones taken from the nearby ruins, dedicated to Tyr, the god of justice
and honour.
This shrine is in care of a scholarly paladin, called Sister Garaele or Garaele Seran.
SISTER GARAELE
Zealous young elf which despairs of ever ridding Phandalin of the Black Spider, Garaele is an
acolyte she advocates equality and opposes the abuse of power. She aids the weak, poor and
the oppressed. She reports back to the shrine of Tyr.
She will point them towards Agatha's house, Count Olgred's wife which stayed away from
him in her final days as he descended into madness.
But in-order to be able for Agatha to manifest, they must have a certain item which is binded
to her. It might be worth searching in her manor, or talking to some locals. DARAN knows of
a chest within the pond outside his house.
Chest contains, some clothes, a golden ring and a Letter which reads: "Olgred my love, what
has gotten into you, you are not the same you. You talk in your sleep about power and
immortality and you do not even look at your own children, you often talk to yourself in
the mirror. I am truly afraid of what is happening, please come back to us"
She will give the players a necklace, and tell them to go to large tree to perform the ritual.
She materialises into her younger self for a second as one of the players will have to go
through three hard ARCANA + RELIGION CHECKS.

If they fail the rest have to battle ghostfire warriors , and ghostfire dreadlord.
GRISHA
Any information the players give her will end up with the Black Spiders, her sister was taken
and she now acts as their proxy hideout.
She will notify the Black Spiders of where the players are, and she is going to collude with
them all the way to ensure her sister is safe. She will attempt to be on the Player's side but
will backstab them in the future.
DC 18 Persuasion: she can join your side, and tell you how to get into tresender manor,
giving you the key to the back door which has a palaside. She suggests entering at night
time.
They can try and confront at a hard encounter at the Sleeping Giant Tap House
2x Captain + 5 Enforcers
Damage 2d8 + 1d8 Freezing damage (if Fail CON 12 save, then the target begins freezing, 3
fails and they are frozen for the next 3 turns) (150Gold)
Phandalin has no functioning government, they elect a town-master to take care of the
records the current town-master has colluded with the Black Spiders, to ensure that the rest of
the folk are safe is what he believes. His name is Harbin Wester.
HARBIN WESTER
Last frontier of hope in Phandalin, he is keep the black spiders at bay from attack and pillaging
the town by giving them free reign to the town's resources and the usage of tresender manor.
He understands the Black Spiders are a threat, but he has allowed them to stay in the guise
of a "Mercenary guild and are protecting the town from the forests"
DC 12 Persuasion: He will believe in the adventurers and tell them that he is the last hold
and they need to have a really good plan if they have any hope to siege Tresender manor, if
they can gain the support of 5 prominent people in Phandalin. He will help them devise a
strategy and bring together the town's folk.
DC 18 Persuasion
Black Spider has three lieutenants under his commands, the Mage of transmutation known
as Glass Staff, The Orc King groll, leader of the cragmaw tribe, wyeren seer Dagoth.
They are each extremely formidable and are extremely powerful to be able to sit as the
pillars of the black spider organization.
He has seen all of them here in Phandalin but Groll and Dagoth have left, Dagoth left on a
green dragon due north east, Groll left with a platoon of orc warriors which snatched some
of the villagers as they left.
Groll has two gauntlets imbued with 2 gem stones each. He is a hulking mass and very strong
Glass-staff is able to transmute a staff full of glass in his right hand and able to move the
terrain, he created a table out of ground as it shifted
Dagoth the most dangerous, rode on a green wyeren and was able to leave on it, he never
got off once.
QUESTBOARD
CLAN TEALEAF
"A clan Tealeaf resides in a small forest in the to the southeast. The halflings of Tealeaf are
known for their supporting Phandalin with trade. We have recently lost contact with them and
we need people to go and check what might have happened. , Townmaster Harbin Wester will
pay you 50 gp for it."
TRESENDER MANOR
It is more of a castle than a house, stands at the east edge of town on a low hillside amid the
woods and thickets. It's an ancient manor which once belonged to the legendary mage Kelzad
(HISTORY 15). The entire place and its cellar has been turned into the operations for the Black
Spider's

Large Bugbears attack players (HEM & FEM) "HEM ATTACK, FEM ATTACK" -> Bug bears can
be persuaded with Gold or shiny objects only at night

Back Palaside
It is not guarded except by spikes and masses of bodies and you can obtain the key for that
from Grisha if you are able to persuade her they you can do what you can.
Black Spiders
Black Spiders will confront the players within a two days of their arrival and or if they snoop
around the eastern region.
They can try and confront at a hard encounter at the Sleeping Giant Tap House
o 2x Captain Dilard + Olrif + 5 Enforcers
Characters decide to investigate the Tresender Manor they will find a Black Spider patrol
o 1 Captain Regnald + 4 Enforcers
If there is no interest they Black Spiders will find them on the road towards the eastern side.
o 4 Enforcers + 3 Thugs
o If they are slain a stronger regiment, Captain Ascendos + 5 Enforcers
Most members are grateful if the ruffians are killed, in the town. The Townmaster fears the
Black Spider Retailiation and urges the adventurers to be more subtle in their slaying
