1. SCOPE
This standard specifies the indication method of material symbols and the indication methods on
drawings for resin and rubber parts.
The material symbols shall surely be indicated not only on parts but also on drawings for the
parts capable of drawing indication.
2. APPLICABLE PARTS
Indications of material symbols and indications on drawings shall be applied, if at all possible
(*1), to all resin and rubber parts. If the indication of material symbols is not possible because of
the shape, functions, or appearance of the parts, it shall be decided upon agreement among the
Design Department, Regulatory Information Coordination Department, and Certification and
Regulation Compliance Division.
Note (*1) "If at all possible" means that the indication of material symbols and drawing
indication can be made on any types of drawings based on the specifications in Section 3. The
indication for parts without a drawing shall, however, conform to Section 7.
Remarks:
1. If there is any specification in the laws and regulations for selecting applicable parts, follow
that specification. As an example for weight, the parts containing 100 g or more resin or 200 g or
more rubber shall have indications on them.
2. The weight, in this context, refers only to that of the applicable materials contained in each
part.
3. INDICATION METHOD
3.1 Construction of Material Symbol
The material symbol will, as a rule, consist of a Honda mark and a material identification
symbol.
> Material Identification Symbol < or > Material Identification Symbol <
Remarks:
1. Expression of "Honda" shall conform to "Honda MARK 2" that is specified in HES Z 0017
(Honda MARKS).
2. Refer to Section 4 for the Material Identification Symbol.

3. Place the symbols ">, <" before and after the Material Identification Symbol as identification
marks.
4. When using Honda marks, the Isolation (protected area) Regulations in the Honda Brand
Identity Guideline shall be abided, and a sufficient space around the Honda mark shall be
provided as shown in Fig. 1. If it is not possible to ensure the isolation area, that area may be
reduced in size. In this case, however, the size of the Honda mark and the material identification
symbol shall conform to the specifications in Section 3.2, and the lengthwise size of the material
identification symbol "b" shall not exceed the lengthwise size of the Honda mark "(H)". If these
are not satisfied, only the material identification symbol shall be indicated. In case of any
questions about the Honda Brand Identity Guideline for applying the Honda mark, contact the
person in charge or the Intellectual Property Division of Honda.
5. The Honda Brand Identity Guideline is exclusive for Honda use, and it shall not be
distributed to suppliers.

Remarks 6: If all of the symbols cannot be indicated because of the parts' shapes, indicate only
the material identification symbol.

3.2 Size of Honda Mark and Material Identification Symbol
The size of the Honda mark and the material identification symbol will conform to Fig. 2 as a rule.
Unit: mm
Basic dimension L

.
Remarks: If the Honda mark and the material identification symbol cannot be indicated in 26
mm and 3 mm, respectively, due to space limitation on the parts, the sizes may be smaller upon
agreement among the parties concerned. The smallest size of the material identification symbol,
however, shall be legible by the unaided eye.

Remarks:
1) For symbols not listed in Table 1, those in ISO 18064:2003 or ISO 1043-1:2001 shall be
used.
2) Blend (polymer blend or alloy) shall be specified by combining component material symbols
with a plus (+) sign.
Example: Blend of PMMA and ABS: >PMMA+ABS<
3) In order to specify basic polymers manufactured from various kinds of condensation units in a
homologous series, numerical numbers shall be added on after a component symbol.
Example)
a) polymer of -caprolactam PA6
b) polymer of hexamethylenediamine and adipic acid PA66
4.1.3 Symbols for special characteristics
Symbols for basic polymer may be supplemented, as required, with not more than four symbols
in order to distinguish the modifications of a polymer. Symbols for special characteristics shall
be indicated after a symbol for the basic polymer combined with a dash (-). Symbols for special
characteristics shall conform to ISO 1043-1:2001. However, frequently used symbols are
indicated in Table 2.
Table 2 (Examples of Symbols for Special Characteristics)
Symbol Description

of the material symbol shall clearly be indicated on drawings or in the NOTE column. If there is
a 3D drawing, the material symbols shall be indicated either on a 3D drawing or a 2D drawing.
However, the detailed shape, of an embossed letter etc., does not have to be indicated on 3D
drawings.
The Honda marks shall conform to Honda MARK 2 in HES Z 0017. Indication methods of the
Honda marks on drawings shall conform to HES A 3021 (INDICATION METHOD OF Honda
MARKS).
