CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Introduction

During adolescence, when individuals are navigating their identity and seeking

acceptance, peer pressure can feel especially intense. Whether it’s pressure to try drugs, engage

in risky behaviors, or conform to social norms, the desire to fit in can lead to decisions that may

not align with personal values.

As stated by Gonzaga (2019), Adolescent have higher tendency to experience peer

pressure in school. Peer pressure is clustered in four categories such as social belongingness,

curiosity, cultural-parenting orientation of parents and education.

Peer groups are usually made up of people who have the same status, are of the same

age. Peer pressure is an omnipotent force since it is relevant at any age level but has a significant

impact during adolescence.

This concept implies the impact of peers on human behavior, decision-making process,

and attitude. Understanding this force is necessary because it is possible to see how we behave

with people and what we decide. This is made worse by the phase of adolescence when an

identity is established, and acceptance is sought. The inclination to adapt can result in decisions

that go against one’s moral code. Peer pressure, in other words, refers to pressure exerted on an

individual to change their opinion, attitude, or behavior in order to conform to that of their close

friends.

In the current study, we will analyze the essence of peer pressure, identify the various

types, and consequences of pressure on an individual’s life. Equipped with knowledge on how

peer pressure occurs, we would be in a position to devise means that will help persons counteract

the negative impact and make decisions that align with their health.

academic performances of Grade 10 students at Nueva Ecija High School.

CHAPTER III

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Summary

This study aims to examine the influence of peer pressure on the academic performance of

grade 10 students in Nueva Ecija High School. The respondents are categorized based on

their age and gender, as well as their levels of susceptibility to peer pressure, curiosity, sense

of social belonging, cultural parenting orientation, and educational background.

Conclusion

The impact of Peer Pressure on academic performance in grade 10 students is a complex and

multifaceted issue. By understanding the dynamics of peer influence and implementing

targeted interventions, educators and stakeholders can support students in achieving their

academic potential and navigating the challenges posed by peer pressure.

This research overview provides a framework for conducting a more in-depth study on the

topic of peer pressure and academic performance in grade 10 students. Further research can

delve into specific factors influencing peer pressure, longitudinal effects on academic

outcomes, and the effectiveness of intervention strategies. Peer pressure can significantly

impact the academic performance of Grade 10 students at Nueva Ecija High School. Those

who experience high levels of peer pressure may struggle with their grades compared to those

who feel less pressured. This suggests the importance of addressing peer pressure dynamics

to support students in achieving their academic potential.

Based on our Research Survey, many people believed that Peer Pressure has a Positive and

Negative Effects on Grade 10 students. We questioned 50 Grade 10 students about it,

majority of them answered Yes (33 Students) and the rest answered No (17 Students).
Recommendation

1. Promote students' understanding of their values and beliefs. This fosters resilience against

external influences.

2. Encourage association with friends who respect personal choices and promote positivity,

thereby lessening negative social pressures.g

3. Provide students with assertiveness training to confidently decline unwanted requests.

Utilize role-playing exercises to bolster self-assurance.

4. Advise students to seek assistance from trusted adults like parents, teachers, or counselors

when feeling pressured socially. A supportive network offers guidance and reassurance.

5. Assist students in establishing and maintaining personal boundaries, including those

concerning substance use or risky behaviors, facilitating resistance to social pressures.
