ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Humans use available information as well as reason in order to solve problems and make
decisions, so why can’t machines do the same thing? That's the question that continues to fuel
the growth of artificial intelligence today. Artificial intelligence is simply computer systems
being able to perform skills that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception,
5 speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages. People are finally
cracking down on AI and making it more useful and rapid than ever before. With something
like this, there are both endless advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, to discuss about what
makes AI so beneficial as well as so harmful to society, as well as what continuous advances in
artificial intelligence mean for our future is necessary.
This making it reliable and efficient. Not only is it a detector for these diseases it's also
a significant progress or evolution of prosthetics. Currently there's a prototype prosthetic limb
in the works that is able to grab objects by adding computer vision technology into installed
20 cameras that assess the shape and size of an object. Like most things AI has its flaws in some
cases it's been known to discriminate against groups of people, and it's a lack of privacy to
people who continue to use it in their daily lives. Researchers say that the misuse of AI poses
threats to digital, physical and political security by allowing large scale attacks. With a system
like AI that's not controlled by a direct person but a number of algorithms it can be extremely
25 easy to manipulate.

PART TWO: LANGUAGE IN USE 30%
TASK A: The paragraph below is about Artificial Intelligence (AI), read it and choose the
right verb form between brackets. Do it like in the example
Example: 1= create
Scientists say that a new kind of robot can reproduce - it can (1.created – create – creating)
baby robots. This is an example of science fiction (2. To become – becoming – became)
science fact. The scientists, from the Universities of Vermont, Tufts and Harvard, created the
world's first "living" robots. They are (3. Calling – called – calls) "xenobots". Scientists (4.
Creating – to create – created) them in 2020 from the stem cells of an African frog. They can
move, (5. Work- to work – working) together in groups and self-heal. Although they are not
what we imagine robots to be, scientists say they are technically robots. They are a machine-
animal hybrid. The scientists (6. Saying – said – say) xenobots are "an entirely new life-form".
The scientists (7. Explained – explains – explaining) that the bots reproduce because of their
shape. Researchers (8. Uses – using – used) artificial intelligence (AI) to test billions of body
shapes. The result was a C-shaped robot. It was able to find tiny stem cells in a petri dish. It
gathered the cells in its mouth. A few days later, the cells became a new, "baby" xenobot. The
xenobots are very early technology. However, they could (9. Change – changed – changing)
science, medicine, technology and the way we live. They could carry out tasks inside our body
to repair damage to organs. They could also help the environment by attacking micro-plastics
in our oceans, or by (10. Cleans up - cleaning up – cleaned up) oil spills. Despite the possible
benefits, some people are (11. Worries – worry – worried) about robots that can reproduce.

TASK A
During a conference about Artificial Intelligence, Elon Musk, a tech entrepreneur, says by
referring to modern technology that “Artificial Intelligence is a bigger threat to humanity than
nuclear weapons”, Besides, not all people go alongside with this idea, for Mark Zuckerberg,
the CEO of Facebook, Artificial Intelligence will save lives.
Imagine you took part to the conference and your fellow students want you to explain them the
pros and cons of this assertion by Elon Musk. Write a for and against essay in which:
