The Facts About Water Globally

Although almost two-thirds of the Earth's surface is covered with

water, only 0.3% is potable water. The remaining 99.7% consists
of sea water, glaciers and water vapor etc.

Access to clean water has been seen as a global problem for years.

Alternative methods have been developed to solve the water
problem.

As alternative methods;
-Using rain water, grey water, and sea water by treating
-Water/wastewater recovery

10
Water/wastewater recovery includes various treatment processes
in order to provide the necessary water quality standards for the
reliable reuse of wastewater in various fields or sectors.

11
The importance of water/wastewater recovery/reuse:

• We do not have a luxury to use water once (Water is limited

resource.)
• Ensuring that the recycled water is suitable for use in
applications such as irrigation and cooling, etc. and that water is
used effectively and efficiently by supporting water resources.
• To contribute to the sustainability of water resources by ensuring
the efficient use of water.
• Ensuring more efficient use of energy and resources with water
obtained from recycling

12
The importance of water/wastewater recovery/reuse:

• Contribute to the protection of the environment by reducing the

volume of water discharged to the receiving environment thanks
to recycling
• The need to protect clean water resources
• Control of nutrients that may cause contamination

13
As a result;
The possibility of clean water sources not being able to meet the need
due to population growth in the near future necessitates the evaluation
of wastewater generated in domestic and industrial areas as an
alternative water source.

However, considering the many different reuse activities of

wastewater, it is seen that conventional treatment technologies, which
are currently used, are insufficient.

14
Water Reclamation, Recovery and Reuse
USEPA definition: Water reuse (also commonly known as water
recycling or water reclamation) reclaims water from a variety of
sources then treats and reuses it for beneficial purposes such as
agriculture and irrigation, potable water supplies, groundwater
replenishment, industrial processes, and environmental restoration.

Water resource recovery refers to using wastewater streams to produce

clean water, energy, and other valuable resources.

Wastewater recovery is the extraction of clean water from wastewater

effluent. This reclaimed water can be recycled and reused within the
plant for processes such as cooling tower or boiler blowdown.
Alternatively, it can be sold on for irrigation or other purposes.
