Self-Reflect
I. Is it necessary for teachers to learn about school curriculum? Why? Write your answer on
the space provided below.

Yes, learning about the school curriculum is necessary for teachers. Teachers guide for
teaching is the curriculum, they follow what topic should be teach in a day, or even weeks.
Curriculum consists of topics of the subject, rules and regulation, and other role of being a
teacher that should be learn by them. Teacher must know the school curriculum for them to
act as a professional. Teacher must know how to integrate, implement, innovate, evaluate
and initiates a curriculum that is very helpful for teaching and learning. Knowing the school
curriculum is also the best thing to know the progress of the students and what other skills
can be develop from them. Nevertheless, as a future curricularist it is not just about knowing
the whole content of the school curriculum but, it is about how will you execute and apply
those content inside and outside the classroom that can be effective for the learning of the
students.

I am a Teacher! Who Am I as a Curricularist?

Instructions: Identify on the blanks provided who am I as a Curricularist based on the cases
presented.

Case 1: I have a good idea on how to make my learners pay attention to the lesson. I will use
the new idea and find out if it will work.
Innovator

Case 2: DepEd sent the standards, competencies and guidelines in teaching the Mother
Tongue in Grade 1 in our school. I will study and use it in the coming school year.
Initiator

Case 3: There is so much to do in one school day. I seem not able to do all, but I have to
accomplish something for my learners. I have made a daily activity plan to guide me.
Planner

Case 4: I need a poem to celebrate the World Teachers' Day. I composed one to be used in my
class in Literature.
Writer

Case 5: My class is composed of learners from different home background and culture, I
cannot use a “one-size-fits all strategy" in teaching so I can respond to the diverse
background. In my readings, I discovered that there are ways of teaching. I tried one
myself and it worked.
Innovator

Case 6: Knowledge is limitless. What I learned in college is not enough. I need to know more,
so I enrolled in the graduate school to advance my learning.
Knower

Case 7. At the end of the year, my performance as a teacher is reflected in the school
performance of my students. So I need to provide a monitoring tool to measure how
they are progressing. The result will inform me how I will address my learners'
weakness and enhance their strengths.
Evaluator

Case 8: I am teaching in a very far away barangay with no electricity yet. Many of the
instructional aids for teaching sent to our school are films and video tapes which need
power. I cannot use them, but the lessons are very important. So I thought of making
an alternative activity. I took my class to the river and waterfall instead of doing the
lesson.

Knower

Case 10: From grade 7 to grade 10 of the K to 12 Enhanced Curriculum, science as a subject is

Self-Reflect
Choose one from Case 1 to 10 above. Reflect on the case you have chosen and write
your reflections on the box below. Ask your classmate to read and comment on your
reflections. Both of you, discuss your answers.

Name: Krizza F. Grimaldo Case No. 8

A. My Reflections on Case No 8 (refer to cases 1 to 10 above)

Through reading the cases above I notice that the cases has their own individual
meaning and value but, case no. 8 caught my attention. The case states that, “I am teaching
in a very far away barangay with no electricity yet. Many of the instructional aids for teaching
sent to our school are films and video tapes which need power. I cannot use them, but the
lessons are very important. So I thought of making an alternative activity. I took my class to
the river and waterfall instead of doing the lesson. I choose to do my reflection in this case
because, as for many teachers most of them experience difficulty in classroom facilities. It is
hard for a teacher to teach without any instructional materials and yet even harder for
students to learn. As a teacher your responsibility is to inculcate knowledge to the learners
and apply it to daily life. With this case it tells how a teacher take action to a problem wherein
the teacher showcase the characteristics of a curricularist. Without the electricity the teacher
can’t execute the lesson well but, the teacher said that lessons are very important. Through
the teachers determination to teach and make learnings to the student the teacher made
impossible things to possible. The teacher made the lessons more effective and collaborative
to student’s learnings. Furthermore, this kind of teacher for me is not just the one who teach
but this teacher implements, and innovates something new to the student making the
learning fun and engaging. I realize that no matter what consequences a teacher may face,
teacher will always find a way to share their knowledge to the student because teacher knows
that students is the most important people in their profession. Without the student they can’t
be a great curricularist.

B. What my partner said about my reflections:

My partner's reflection is all about case number 8. Her reflection amazed me, from the
way she reflects on how important the teacher's work are, it's not a joke. Our skills and
experiences along with the curriculum would be the one that will always be there for us. This
reflection gets me, we never thought what other teachers are experiencing out there,
everywhere, but through innovation in the curriculum this makes it easier for her students to
learn effectively. Above all these, I like what she reflected in life that made me realize that
being a teacher was not always just lecturing your students but being a teacher must always
be aware on how will her student learn in different ways and manners.
